After a 2 hour interview, I felt 'off' when I left his office. I did not know how to feel about our meeting. Then when I received his report, it was utter garbage. His report was 99 flawed as he misquoted me, said that I had considered "less lethal measures' to kill myself! I was so shocked by this statement. My employer jumped on his diagnoses that I drink 2-3 beers daily, which is completely untrue. He used answers from different questions to answer other questions and this has caused me so much concern. Definitely take someone with you when you see him. He is unprofessional to say the least and not very good at what he does. If I could give zero's I would.

I was Evaluated by Dr. Alan Buchanan on June 04, 2009. I was a UBC Employee , Dr. A Buchanan a UBC Clinical Professor. BIAS I would think. However on meeting with Dr. Buchanan he certainly appeared on the up and up. The BIAS kicked in when he rushed his medical report back to UBC / HR on the very same day as the Evaluation June 04, 2009. Nobody works that fast, my feeling. His Report was already written prior to the Evaluation.

After a 2 hour "interview" Dr Alan Buchanan was convinced that I was mentally stable and should be able to continue working at my present job, at the dismay of my employer and union.

Some useful information provided during the appointment but report was upsetting - inaccurate facts and I felt it did not represent the discussion we had or his verbal recommendations. Have someone accompany you.

His report on me was also factually incorrect on several details - like where did he get the idea that I was serially married/ divorced, lol. I think he may be a shabby note taker or can't read his own writing. I also found his manner tooccold and clinical. His 2 hour 'interview' with me felt more like an interrogation! :0 I also felt like he was asking me 'trick questions' to try and get me to contradict myself to see if I was malingering about my symptoms. Although I understood his need to be 'detached' or objective (since he was hired by my employer), he could still have asked me questions in a more empathic manner to put me at ease. NEVERTHELESS, HE GOT THE JOB DONE FOR ME. I will be forever grateful to Dr. Buchanan for doing a thorough assessment (he even included several questionnaires for me to fill out about my symptoms). My employer's disability insurance FINALLY approved my claim based on his report! They paid me retroactively and I'm finally on the road to healing :)

In my opininion his report on me was "factually incorrect" in so many ways, printed his report with comments i never said. Hired by my employers insurance company, and i feel his opinions are biased, (representing employer) not employee.. I am presently fighting to keep my job because of it
