I would not be here today without him. Because of him I am alive to tell you that he's a brilliant doctor.

Going into Dr. Barnes office is like having a warm blanket handed to you. Both Dr. Barnes and his assistant Anne Richardson are the best medicine in helping someone deal with what could be a devastating situation. I am so lucky to have found them when I discovered I had ovarian cancer.

Dr. Barnes is clearly an expert in treating normal gynecological cancers. My diagnosis was a little rare and I think he made a few wrong medical decisions. These were compounded by his complete inability to explain his thinking behind his decisions and to engage in any kind of discussion of different options. If you want a doctor who is in charge and will tell you what you need to have done, then go to him. if you want to be a participant in the decision process, or to understand your treatment, then don't go anywhere near him. He is an old style doctor who wants to be in charge and will cut out what ever you let him. He gave me less than 24 hours to decide whether to keep my ovaries when having a hysterectomy, without any kind of medical information as to the risks/ benefits, other than he thought it best. He also told me that my own reading about my condition made his job harder. So if you are a thinking consumer of medicine avoid Dr. Barnes

Dr. Barnes is highly recognized for his expertise and skill among his physician peers. He is highly recognized by his medical board and the Georgetown university. He provides clear advice and his staff is caring. The billing department is the worst I've ever experienced.

Dr. Barnes has extensive experience — you don't get to be chief of your department (gynecology oncology) unless you're very good. I appreciate his professionalism and straightforward approach to discussing issues. When the news is bad, he doesn't sugarcoat it and he is always careful to point out the good and not-so-good outcomes that are possible with any surgery or treatment. Yet he will give his professional opinion about the options and tell you what he has seen in his other patients that has brought him to his conclusions. I went through a lot of doctors before finding him many years ago, and it was a relief not to have to shop around when it came time for treatment. I have recommended him to many people in need of a good specialist.

This Dr was not helpful OR warm. He didn't explain my options once surgery was recommended and acted as if he was too busy and didn't care. His nurse was also rude and wasn’t very willing to ask for a refill of a pain med or birth control after i had just obtained a pap. She told me to go back to my PCM.. ?? I work with Doctors on a daily basis. This one is waiting ti retire. DON'T waste your time.

Didn't seem to like the idea that I wanted a consultation before a physical examination even though I gave him MRI, Ultrasound and blood test results. Was evasive, and somewhat condescending. He maybe a good surgeon, but he doesn't know how to communicate.

My daughter had a dermoid tumor removed by Dr. Barnes. His professionalism and candor are above and beyond anything we have experienced before. We would recommend him in a heart beat.
