Dr. Durrant was my stem cell transplant doctor in the years 2000 through 2010 approx. I found him to be both very dedicated and knowledgeable. He was always around to see me during my visits for chemotherapy and the transplant. He had a pleasing personality and a patient approach. I have nothing negative to say about this Doctor.

Refused to give treatment on the basis cancer was refractive and it wasn’t. Told me he has a relationship to protect with the laboratories, meaning that if he gives you the meds you need and they fail, the effectiveness rating go down so you only get them if you have an absolute chance of recovery, I.e. you “don’t meet the criteria” get stuffed and die without treatment.
Don’t be fooled by his knowledge, its his reputation, the labs and money first, you’re last.
If I knew a few months ago what I know now I would have run away from him and Stephen Lane.
Even a 75 year old doctor told me on a plane to Kuala Lumpur when I tried to organise a transfer there that Australia’s medicine has gone mad, that he tells his friends to run away to Singapore or KL if they have something serious like cancer.
He will only give you (cheap) first generation drugs, second and third are not covered by PDS so we either fly overseas (if we have the money) or die. Pathetic…heartless liar.

I have been seeing Simon since 2015 I was Stage 4 NHL Follicular by the time I was referred to him at RBWH. He is concise and doesn't mince his words. If he's late its because he has patients in a more critical condition at that very time . I don't mind reading a book and waiting. I don't expect him to apologize because if I was that "critical" patient I would be thankful that he was looking after me. I hear new patients (usually older) complaining about waiting and it annoys me. Whats the most important thing in your life? Running to the clock? or LIVING! Take a chill pill and appreciate that while you are whining about waiting to see him -there are others in the same waiting room living on borrowed time and doing all they can to stay alive . He is well respected as a specialist with Bone Marrow and Stem Cell procedures. He is THE MAN I would want on my team if I progressed to BMT or SC. I am in semi remission and it all comes down to Simon and the Team in Cancer Care.

I have been seeing Dr Durrant for over 10 years now. I arrived in his office running out of options, he managed to get me onto a drug trial that saved my life. He supports his patients at all times and doesn't mince his words. If you want a Dr who is direct and to the point about what needs to be done to keep on, this is the guy.

Would not be here save for Simon Durant. Tells it like it is, knows his stuff and will eventually become more human the longer you know him. Does not suffer fools gladly. Still owe him a good bottle of red. Even got him to tell jokes eventually. made a good team with Dr. Morton. Good cop , Bad cop . Would not have made it without them. Lynette Critch.
