My family doctor moved to the UK and I haven't been able to find a doctor in Kingston. I've been on a simple antidepressant (cymbalta) and Trazodone for over 10 years. A team of mental health professionals at CamH in Toronto advised me I will likely need to stay for life since they have been working and coming off them can be fatal considering I've been on them so long. I've medically attempted to come off these medications 2 years ago but unfortunately ended up in hospital 3 times due to severe withdrawal symptoms.
Now that I don't have a family doctor I've been trying to find the easiest solution to get the medication refills. Unfortunately, 2 walk in clinics have declined to refill them, and one clinic said I would have to go the hospital for future refills.
I've been going to Hotel Dieu for over a year now to refill these medications and welcomed with open arms. The doctors I've seen have perscribed me multiple months worth at a time so I wouldn't have to come back every month for another refill.
Yesterday I went to the hospital Urgent Care clinic as usual for my refills where I was criticized by Dr. Brison for "not going to walk in clinics for refills". I advised him I've tried that before and they told me to come back to the hospital as they keep better records. Dr. Brison then advised me "this is an emergency room" and that I was basically wasting their time.
He did however give me a refill for 30 days which meant I have to come back again next month and wait another 3 hours .
After arguing with him for a moment he finally decided to give me 3 months worth of refills so I wouldn't "waste his time anymore" as he put it.
Dr. Brison, Kingston is in a state of emergency when it comes to healthcare and doctors like you certainly don't help at all! If you feel your services are being wasted, by all means contact the mayor and advise him more healthcare services are urgently needed and stop shaming patients for trying to seek the best solutions to the deplorable condition our Healthcare is in.
I'll be back for a refill in 3 months. In the meantime I've been contacting the city, Hotel Dieu Hospital management, and the college of physicians about this matter. Enough is enough!
