I’m reading these reviews wondering if we’re talking about the same person. I had a routine prescription refill encounter with Dr. Matt Stempien and found the man to be completely incompetent and rude. I can handle bluntness but this guy had a burr in his bonnet and was ranting about how prescriptions needed to be filled by a family doctor and not a walk in clinic. I’d been coming to that clinic (I guess I’d seen other doctors) for years for this and my family doctor knows and is okay with that based on the challenge of getting in to see her during normal hours. This doctor is highly unprofessional and it doesn’t surprise me that he’s relegated to a walk in clinic.

Worth waiting for!! Everyone should know that long waits will occur when you go to
Emergency. ( I guess unless you are dying!!!) Sure I waited to see Dr Stempien. But my wife and I could not have been happier with care he provided for my daughter. He was very caring and answered all out questions.

My daughter woke up this evening crying about severe pain in her ear after a day of mild discomfort. Given the time and her obvious distress we took her to the ER at JBMH and had the absolute displeasure of having to deal with this doctor. After a 4.5 hour wait he did not even bother to spend 3 minutes with us, dismissing it as a typical ear infection despite the ample discharge and pain and did not bother to spend any time explaining or even allowing us to ask any questions. I get the wait times and fully understand however, a little compassion and information goes a long way once you do finally get to see a doctor. The nurses could clearly see her distress and I believe bumped her up in line as a result and I am of the opinion that this annoyed the good doctor and possibly the reason for his poor behaviour. I could not have been happier with the nurse staff and found them to be outstanding and in total contrast to our doctor and cannot express my appreciation adequately for their sympathy and professionalism and feel sorry for them having to deal with upset patients due to the wait times and to have to work with such a rude and uncaring individual in our experience. I can only hope that this was an off day for this doctor and that others with more dire circumstances do not have the misfortune of having this doctor on call during their time of need...

I've had Dr Stempien a few times for being in the ER and he's amazing. He's passionate, caring and is very helpful when it comes to diagnosing things. Kudos to him for being a light in a not so great hospital!

I admitted myself to the ER at JoBrant this weekend. It was an incredibly busy ER Room, packed full of unpleasant demanding patients, waiting 4-6 hours for treatment. When it was my turn, I had the absolute privilege of being treated by Dr Stempien. I was very impressed with his demeanor, personalized attention, care and treatment I received as well his post ER concerns for myself. In my experience, as I am sure it applies to others he was treating...he goes the extra mile and provides a level of service that is truly a step above the rest. He is a fantastic compassionate ER doctor, who works in a very stressful and unpleasant environment dealing with a lot of demanding patients.

On New Year's Eve my son became very ill. He was vomiting non-stop. At first we figured he had had too much to drink but after two more days of vomiting we took him to JBH. Dr. Cherian came in to see him (unfortunately I had run to the bathroom) and told my son he smelled like marijuana and he "knew" what this was all about and he left the room. I came back within minutes to a son that was distraught and still vomiting every two minutes. Dr. Cherian came back and, as my son is vomiting uncontrollably, said he was discharging him. I was stunned! Thankfully Dr. Stempien was coming on his shift and reassured me that my son was not going anywhere that evening. Long story short, after ten long days of being in and out of hospital, my son saw a surgeon and was diagnosed and properly medicated. Dr. Stempien was wonderful, I hope I never have occasion to have to see Dr. Cherian again.

I echo the comments made with regarding Dr. Stempien being incompetent. He is rude, lazy and his medical knowledge and diagnostic abilities are marginal. No wonder he is working for a hospital. If he had a private practice, patients would never tolerate him.
