after an emergency room visit I had a gastroscopy with Mark , he didn't even bother to turn around and say hello , i just saw his back . His office has been unable to get me my exam results of the exam almost a month later .
His parents would have been better off sending him to clown college ...

Top marks for one of the best gastroenterologists in North America. And I've seen plenty over the decades to try to deal with my severe IBD. Dr. Silverberg is a leader, which is what you need when you're dealing with a medical domain that is this complex. You want bedside manner? Watch Mr. Dressup. You want a competent doctor who can elevate your quality of life? Dr. Silverberg's my recommendation.

I've been with Dr. Silverberg for 18 years at Mt. Sinai Hospital, he never gave up on me. I've been in remission for 6 years so far with his help. He is extremely knowledgable and an expert in the field.

After 15 years of having very obscure symptoms (racing heart, red hot flushing, fatigue, upper and lower right sided ABD pain, weird headache, and 2-4 BM daily -- never any bleeding until 10 years into it), I had seen so many various specialists for consultations. (Including the 'best GIs' at St. Mike's and NYGH). I was even tested for rare cancers called neuro-endocrine tumours, such as carcinoid syndrome. Exasperated, exhausted and having lost my nursing school career back in 2004 over this, I finally asked for a referral to a proper IBD-only GI clinic. He saw me in the ER with a resting HR over 100, and knew something was obviously wrong. Dr. Silverberg got me into remission in 14 weeks with a new IV drug called Entyvio. He also did what no other GI did. He *measured* the length of the Colitis. He also used a special test, called the Calprotectin, that the prior GIs didn't seem to know about. (I have had other abdominal pain, but it seems to be Endo. Getting it all sorted out now.) Thank you for giving me my life back. My young child has a Mommy again. No words could ever express my level of gratitude. ~E Chase

I get the sense that Dr. Silverberg is among the leaders of his field, and he appears to be a very intelligent doctor. However, I find that he has zero bed-side manner, and does not care at all about patient input/ concerns, communication. He brushes off any concerns I may have, often ignoring me and cutting me off in mid-sentence. I understand that he is the specialist and I've sought him out for my treatment, but he spends very little time explaining his approach, alternative methods, zero time discussing diet, or any other concerns, really. I dread my appointments with him because I always leave dissatisfied, demotivated, and unheard. UC and IBD has had a huge impact on my life, treatments are not working as hoped, and he only talks "at me" in the span of our short appointment. I then have to wait four months for my next appointment. These illnesses are often chronic and have no real "cure" and there has to be a little understanding, on the part of the doctor ,of the immense difficulties a patient must endure, and the possibility of terrifying and not-yet-known side effects of the treatments he so often recommends.

Amazing Gastroenterologist. His assistant, Emily, is always so helpful and empathetic. I couldn't be more impressed with his clinical practice. I couldn't be more thankful for him and his team.

While I cannot speak for his clinical practice, I can speak for his manner while I was inpatient at Mount Sinai. He came to assess me at bedside and was very thorough. I complained about my hip pain due to an abcess and he recognised it was not normal, and recommended and physiotherapist to improve my mobility. His assessment was very thorough and he figured out the cause of my declining health. He is a great listener as he I complained that too many fluids left me running to the bathroom all day and he took steps to adjust my IV and medication. He has great communication skills, is easy to talk to, and he is very caring and compassionate.
