Please don't retire we need you there has never been a doctor like you that cares
I needed a tuberculosis skin test to volunteer at a hospital. Dr Sum said my test was positive and I decided treatment with isoniazid would be appropriate. The isoniazid came from Peel Public Health and I received a letter from them stating the treatment would be for 3 months. I completed the treatment and took the blood tests for my liver required during treatment. However, Dr Sum told me he wants me to be treated for 1 year and provided me with another bottle of isoniazid, this time with someone else’s name on it. I called Peel Public Health and told them Dr Sum gave me another bottle of isoniazid with someone else’s name on it! Eventually I went to a Peel Public Health clinic with my health card and showed them the bottle so they would believe me and tell me to stop taking the isoniazid. I had taken isoniazid for more than 6 months by then with blood tests every 2 weeks. It was disappointing Peel Public Health would not believe me when I called them and that Dr Sum would make me take medication much longer than required and risked damaging my liver.
We have Dr. Sum as family doctor since he started at McBride Medical Centre , 40 yrs. He is a excellent physician. It will be a sad day when he retires.
I've been a patient of Dr.Sum my whole life of 31 years, and I can honestly say without a shred of doubt that he is wonderful! I've had to go to clinic doctors more recently due to his leave of absence, and none come close to his caring, knowledge and expertise.
When I first came to Mississauga I tried a number of family doctors who had a poor bedside manner. After finding Dr. Sum in 1990, I didn't have to look any further. He has always been a pleasure to visit; is caring and attentive and doesn't rush you out the door, even if you have three or four separate ailments or concerns to discuss. On occasion, I have asked him whether he is thinking about retiring soon and that is only because I don't want to be surprised by suddenly losing him. His receptionist keeps him right on time, all the time. Long live Dr. Sum.
I think Dr Sum has one foot out the door and its time to retire. A friend who has been coming to him for 20 plus years recently passed due to an enlarged heart/heart disease and was never diagnosed. I am also a patient of this doctor and he down plays every ache and pain. This time someone died, I am not a medical professional and don't pretend to be but can't understand why when this person ( that is 64) went in with chest pains and shortness of breathe wasn't sent to get tests immediately, he died 2 days later... negligent? not sure but certainly just prescribing nitroglycerin and down playing doesn't seem like the correct course of action.
I have been a patient of Dr. Sum for over 40 years. He is like a member of the family. He was there when my mum passed away and has been there fore me through my recent family diagnosis of ALS. Dr Sum is a very compassionate, helpful, knowledgeable. If he was taking on new patients, I would recommend him to anyone, One of the best things is when you go to see him you don't get a prescription for every ache and pain. I have never had to wait in fact most times I am in and out before my actual appointment time.
Dr. Sum is a caring and knowledgeable doctor. He is usually friendly and easy going and he will take the time to answer and explain any queries which you may have on a particular medical problem. He has been my family physician since the mid 1970's.
I've been with Dr Sum on and off throughout te years, mainly because I haven't always lived in Mississauga. I haven't found him to be any worse than other doctors I have seen. However, his man receptionist Betty is a pain to deal with. I have other family members that have been going to him since the mid '80s, and all of them have had issues with her. I've always said, if you don't lie your job then leave, no one has gun to your head. I would probably see him more often if it wasn't for her.
Dr. Sum has been my family physician for coming on 20 years now. The only reason I still use him is I'm having difficulty finding another physician. I am young and in good health, not a huge rush. I can never get refills on prescriptions, Dr. Sum insists on me coming in every time. I agree with the cash grab statement. Dr. Sum is not the most pleasant to deal with either. I find that he looks down on his patients as if they were inferior. I'll say this... I won't send my kids there.
