Ratings for Dr. Christopher L. Calapai

I had several chronic tendinitis issues from playing sports. I went to several doctors who were unable to help me, they just prescribed medicine to mask the issue. I looked up dr. Calapai and read about his prolotherapy techniques and prp therapy techniques and I gave it a shot. I had an easy experience with his staff on the phone, the website gave me all of his info and answered most of my questions. Upon arrival at the offices, his staff was pleasant and eager to help. Dr. Calapai took plenty of time with me to answer my questions and use a thorough process of inquiring and discussing how my injury happened, the position of the muscle at the time of injury etc. once I underwent the prolotherapy treatment a few times I couldn't believe that I healed and the pain went away. I had a meniscus tear in my knee that other doctors wanted to operate on and the prp therapy along with the prolotherapy completely healed. I am so happy and would recommend dr. Calapai to anyone who lives with chronic pain or suffers from muscle, tendon or ligament pain.
Dr. C. is really unbelievable in this day and age of medicine. He spent time with me, he was thorough, and I left having a little more faith in the practice of medicine. I went to his office in East Meadow and Donna was Great, and he has a nice allergy technician who made the testing quick and painless. I had allergies to chicken, and have now eliminated it and lost weight. My father has coronary artery disease and I intend to bring him for a stem cell consult. He also gave me a comprehensive vitamin and mineral test and I did get some vitamins as well which were reasonably priced. Great experience overall.
I went to see Dr Calapai for DCIS, Breast cancer, and after 8 treatment of intravenous peroxide and Vit c the cancer cell had died; according to the pathology report from the lump ectomy :)
Puzzled. I heard him on the radio and he sounded good. Not all, but MOST of the staff were quite overweight (which does not give a good impression). People were sitting around in the back waiting area getting IV vitamins or chelation or whatever. His PA took some history and exam. He took none. Just ordered a huge battery of blood tests. When that came back he said I had a little Epstein Barr and gave me self injectable Vit B 12 with hardly any instructions to take home and do myself, cost $120. Said low Vit D3, Nurse gave me Vit D3 shot $50. Why not just take vitamins? Talked me into trying Prolo shot for knee which did not do anything and was costly. Said to go on low carb diet and handed me a handout on that and the Prolo. When I overheard him in the next exam room, seems he told them pretty much the same thing.
I really like Dr. Calapai. He is very, very knowledgeable and I have a lot of faith in him. The majority of the fees were for allergy testing.
Dr Calapai is a very thorough and concerned doctor whose fault is that he has so much to share with you that he seems to "rush " through explanations and assumes you know what he's talking about! Just stop and ask questions. Come with a pad and pencil, stop him if he's going too fast, and you'll see that he will turn around, slow down, and answer you to your satisfaction. He will offer you many solutions....you just need to prioritize the treatments you need at the time. Dr Calapai only suggests treatments, and solutions.......you don't have to feel that you must do everything. He's helped me with conditions that no other doctor has even tried to remedy. He's a great "detective" and will never doubt or make light of your concerns and problems. He's become my hero!
I visited with Dr. Calapai on 5/4/13, I found his staff to be adequate and the wait time reasonable given that I was a new patient. I was brought into a typical examining room when Dr.Calapai came in and asked me what my desired weight goal is, he never even closed the door to keep our conversation private. I found that a bit strange when he asked me about my weight. He never even bothered to ask me why I was there or about my family medical history. We spoke about 10 minutes while he listened to my heart beat and respiration all along telling me about the extensive blood work and allergy tests he wanted to have done. As others have described he is all about promoting his alternative therapies. My curiosity for visiting Dr. Calapai was from listening to him on his radio talk show and I thought he was someone I would like to visit for a very a specific condition. I think he's only interested in promoting his protocols and his intravenous therapies, its all about the almighty dollar.
On my very 1st visit I spoke to the staff and was received with silence, had to wait over hour. During my testing review paid 190.00 and the doctor spented less than 5 min with me. On that day I wanted to request a certain staff inject me for my chelation (b/c I'm terrify of needles) and the head nurse verbally attacked me. I apologized and tried to talk to her later. She stated this conversation was irrevelant and that she won. I stated, I didn't realize this was a competition and that she was being very unprofessional. I later called to speak with the doctor, and then called two other days to no avail. They wouldn't let me speak with him. I did 2 phases of the allergy testing and 4 weeks later my arm is darkened with spots. I am very disappointed in the way in which I was treated. Will not be going back there.
My issue is not with the wait and the rather stiff front office staff, it is with the doc not listening, giving me "his program" whether I need it or not, and giving me a host of tests that were totally unnecessary. Then he told me (I was there for a lingering upper respiratory issue) that I had every illness known to mankind, all the while looking at his computer, not at me. Did he treat the upper respiratory issue? Hell no! His PA told me. "Maybe you ought to go on antibiotics." I did and was back to the gym and my full schedule in 2 days, no thanks to MR. "I AM ABOUT MONEY."
The staff is extremly unfriendly. Becaue of this I no longer visit with the Doctor.
