You’re Eating Yogurt All Wrong

You’re Eating Yogurt All Wrong

The next time you peel the lid of your yogurt cup and stare down that thin layer of liquid that’s settled on top, don’t pour it out.

Mix it thoroughly instead before you take your first spoonful.

Why?

That seemingly undesirable juice is actually a protein – whey – with tons of plenty of health benefits.

In simple terms, whey is a liquid protein that remains after milk is curdled and strained. It’s considered a complete protein since it contains all nine essential amino acids.

Why does whey make yogurt better?

Whey protein is low in fat and cholesterol, high in calcium, and a strong source of vitamin B. It also gives yogurt that signature tangy taste, and has beneficial probiotics, too.

So, don’t let that valuable whey drip out. If you can’t stomach the look, opt for Greek yogurt instead, or bypass the mixing process by giving that container a shake to combine everything inside. To make your yogurt cup that much healthier, consider adding some extra tasty yogurt mix-ins, too.
