How to Participate in Movember

Bring on the mustache and help put an end to early death in men.

It’s that time of year again: Movember! As fall settles in, people in countries around the world are taking time to talk about men’s health and to raise funds in the process.

So, what is it, exactly? Movember is a non-profit movement that seeks to raise awareness of prostate and testicular cancer, as well as mental health and suicide among men. Participants often grow a mustache (hence the ‘M’ in ‘Movember’) as they band together to raise money for the Movember Foundation.

If you’d like to join the cause, you can get active and raise funds through activities like running, swimming or rowing. You can also donate directly to the cause online, or sign up as an individual or a group.

For those who like to organize out there, the Movember Foundation recommends hosting an event to raise money such as a golf tournament, dinner party, karaoke night, or a “shave down”.

So who came up with this idea in the first place? The movement is originally from Australia, and Canadians are currently the largest contributors to the event.

Movember is currently proudly celebrated in Australia, New Zealand, the UK, the U.S, Israel, South Africa, Taiwan, Ireland, the Czech Republic, Denmark, El Salvador and Spain among other places.
