Common Mistakes You’re Making to Damage Your Sensitive Skin

It seems like no matter what you try, your sensitive skin just ends up being irritated again.

But you don’t have to live in a constant state of itching and burning – just do your best to avoid these common mistakes most people make to damage their sensitive skin.

Using too many products

Sure, having healthy, glowing skin is something we all want – but using heaps of different sunscreens, foundations, acne treatments and anti-aging products may end up doing more bad than good if you’re overlapping them all.

Using too many products at once can aggravate your skin, causing itching, burning, and redness—and overdoing it can actually make skin more sensitive than it was previously!

So, try and keep it simple. Use unscented cleansers to wash your face and body. Stick to one or two go-to products at a time – dermatologists recommend an unscented moisturizer and an oil-free sunscreen as your initial 1-2 punch. And separate the application of your products; apply some in the morning, and a couple at night to give your skin some air.

Taking long, hot showers

More often than note, sensitive skin is dehydrated, which increases irritation – and long, hot showers can enhance that dryness.

Protect your skin by limiting shower to five to 10 minutes, and don’t use scalding hot water – warm water is optimal. For best hydration, finish your shower with a fragrance-free moisturizer to lock in hydration.

Not washing your face before bed

Like brushing your teeth twice a day, you should be doing the same washing your face in the morning and night. Keeping makeup, lotion, or other face products overnight can further irritate your skin, and can lead to rashes and itching, or even acne in the worst cases. Apply a fragrance-free cleanser before getting that shuteye every night for true beauty sleep.
