A Slow and Steady Jog Wins the Race

Not always the first one to cross the finish line? Well, there’s good news for you joggers out there as the activity may be better for your health than a fast-paced run, new research suggests.

In fact, going for a jog could be not only as good as running, but even better for your health in the long run (pun intended), according to a study by researchers from Denmark and published in the Journal of the American College of Cardiology (JACC.)

For the study, researchers followed over 5000 people who were a part of the Copenhagen City Heart Study.  They tracked those who were non-joggers and those who were joggers who kept a slow, moderate, or strenuous pace.

Over a twelve year period, the researchers assessed the health of the participants as well as their mortality.  The data showed that 28 of the joggers and 128 of the non-joggers had died during this time.

For the joggers with a more moderate pace, the risk of death was lower than the more strenuous joggers and, according to the study, jogging just three times a week was linked to the lowest overall mortality risk.

  • Aw, this was a really nice post. Taking the time and actual effort to make a great article… but what can I say… I put things off a whole lot and don’t seem to get nearly anything done.|
