My wife was seen at Centura - St. Francis Hospital 05/20/2023 - I had to carry my wife to a wheel chair because she couldn't stand due to severe weakness and pain in her legs and could not walk (An Emergency Situation.) My wife is battling an auto immune Illness for almost 15 years now and the illness is progressing to her liver and has caused multiple complications through out her life. The illness is very painful because it causes muscle tissue degeneration and has lead to tears in her heart valves. Dr. Kates treated us very coldly and with a condescending attitude. He was short, uncaring and treated my wife very poorly.. To his credit he did admit my wife to the hospital where she is currently going through rehabilitation but only after he told us the scans show nothing that would prevent you from walking. I don't know why your here. This is after I had to carry my wife to a wheel chair and roll her in the the ER. He has no bed side manner, spent all of 10 min with us and discarded us. The nurses and staff all mentioned that he has a poor attitude and often times bullies those that work with him with his arrogance and sharp smug responses. Doctor that don't care about healing should not be doctors.. If Dr. Mason Kates is your doctor in your must vulnerable moment ..think about seeking treatment else.

He was one of the worst ER Dr's I have come across in a long time. From the beginning he was very short with me. Before I completely explained what was wrong he was already saying he couldn't help me. When I told him I couldn't walk, my legs were collapsing underneath me, and pain was shooting at the bottom of my spine, he was like trying to repeat it to me sayings "So now your saying you can't walk" like I changed my story, which I hadn't. He just kept trying to get me to admit that it seemed so he could just send me home. I asked for an MRI originally and he said because it was a weekend he didn't have techs available..... in a hospital..... Yet he ended up ordering one. In my notes he put "potentially drug seeking". Even though I never asked for narcotic pain meds (he ended up ordering them later without me knowing). And I clearly couldn't walk or stand on my legs. When my MRI came back somewhat clear he made the suggestion of having to admit me but his attitude when he said it implied he was annoyed by the fact and it seemed he wanted me to choose to go home. Just over all is a bad experience and he contributed to my PTSD with ER Dr's. I avoid the hospital at all cost until I HAVE to go and to be treated in such a manner.... he should know better. Will be filing complaint against him with the hospital.

He is by far the worst physician I have ever encountered. Horrible bedside manner, rude, arrogant, condescending. He should not be practicing medicine.

He was hostile and demeaning from the second he walked in the room. This man has serious mental health issues that he’s taking out on both patients and staff. It’s pretty bad when a male nurse and tech say he bullies them as well, and they have gotten used to apologizing for his aggressive bullying behavior. He needs to leave his personal problems outside of the workplace, change professions, and get much needed psych help. This is not how you treat vulnerable (unhealthy) people, or your fellow staff.

He was rude and condescending, and told me I was hysterical. He ignored advice of the on call hematologist, and sent me home after a chest X-ray showed I didn’t have a pulmonary embolism. Never mind the fact that this was a condition I’ve dealt with for years, and knew what I needed (a blood transfusion). He discharged me, I followed up the next day with Hematology, who, SHOCKER, transfused several units of blood. If I could give him negative stars, I would. He shouldn’t have a medical license. The rating platform won’t let me use the word that accurately describes him.
