He diagnosed my son with Hydrocephalus when he was only six months old based on two symptoms: larger than normal head circumference and what he called "sunset eyes." My GP had referred us to be on the safe side due to the larger nature of my sons head. At the appointment where he "diagnosed" him, he also asked me what I had done in pregnancy that could have caused this (?!) and asked me a lot of questions relating to the fact that it was probably my fault and I probably did something in pregnancy. We were horrified and terrified for our son. We got a fast referral to a pediatric neurosurgeon at Mac within a few days and had a brain ultrasound for our little guy. This whole time we were thinking he'd have to have a shunt placed, thanks to Dr. Al Gazi... we met with the neurosurgeon next who was shocked that we had been so scared. It turned out, our son only had something called macrocephaly. It's hereditary, usually in first born males. His skull grew faster than his brain (and it's was nothing crazy) so his body made more fluid to protect his brain from rattling around inside his noggin! The surgeon said usually they grow into their heads by the age of 2 or 3. Lo and behold, he's a normal looking six year old now.... and guess what? All the first born males on my husbands side of the family have large heads (again, nothing that you would ever notice.. but hat shopping can be hard.)
SO, if he gives you a scary diagnosis for your tiny baby, get a second opinion before getting scared. Even my own family doctor was appalled. I wish I'd reported this to the college back in 2018.
