This is an update to my review of 2.5/5 stars from Aug 7, 2023. After diagnosing me with heartburn and told to take Tums, she sent me out the door and said to call if anything changes. Well, because she refused to question what could be causing my symptoms, and digging further into what could be wrong - I am now dealing with lung cancer that has spread to my heart. Thank you Dr Varkey. Maybe if she had spent more time trying to help me, we could have caught my cancer much earlier. DO NOT use this Doctor. She has no desire to find out what is truly wrong with you.

After spending very little time with me, and doing the routine bloodwork, she attributed my symptoms to something totally off the wall and sent me out the door. I am not looking for meds. I am looking for someone to help me with my health issues. When I gave her a couple of ideas I thought might be of concern, she brushed them off and said no. Now what do I do? I have a Dr that doesn't want to help me and I have unresolved medical issues.

Totally useless. Interested in how many patients in a day she can charge for

If I had stayed with her I would childless my whole life.

I came to her with my first miscarriage and she was sympathetic and did the basic minimum. Seemed fine. Then I had a second miscarriage. I knew this because the ultrasound did not go well, there was no heart beat. She didn’t even read my file before entering the room and said “how is baby?!” Um dead….
She quickly pulled up my file and read it and then apologized and ordered the bloodwork. I told her something must be wrong because a normal 27yo doesn’t have multiple miscarriages. She waved her hand and said it’s normal.
I immediately saw a new doctor that week since she was obviously an idiot. The new doctor took time to look at my file and said that radiology noted a possible obstruction that needed further investigation. He sent me to the fertility clinic where they confirmed I needed surgery in order to prevent further miscarriages (at this point I was on miscarriage #3)
I got the surgery and now have 2 beautiful children. Advocate for yourself and avoid this women. No way is her licence real.

not all is bad but i would never recommend .

when I started going there I liked that she is up front about avoiding meds unless its absolutely necessary. but then she started kicking me out the door before i even told her what was wrong. she doesn't listen to what your saying. its in one ear and out the other with her. she says things like i don't have time for this. i booked an appointment for her time, so what is she talking about? she makes you feel like your inconveniencing her by booking an appointment.

staff is fine other wise. not exceptional but fine. they are usually on time which is nice.

but i guess its easy to be in time when your kicking people out after 30 seconds of talking to her.

do not accidently miss an appointment , they have one of the craziest cancelation policies. sometimes its $160 which is nothing short of fraud.

if you have the means to go elsewhere , I would. I definitely wont be returning.

I've been with Dr.Varkey for 5+ years now and moved clinics with her. She's very direct and straight to the point which I like, and did not want to prescribe medication needlessly until further investigation. I had heart palpitations for years which many doctors attributed to anxiety, stress, being tired, too much caffeine etc. because I am a healthy females in my early 20s and the symptoms only started during university. Dr. Varkey didn't dismiss it outright but also asked me to keep track of my heart rate, so I got a fitbit and when I showed her my result, she referred me to a cardiologist, but my heart was fine during their tests. Understanding of how random my symptoms trigger, she told me to go to urgent care to get an ECG next time it happens, which I was not aware was an option but followed through. With the ECG available I was able to see the cardiologist again, who then referred to to an electrophysiologist, and eventually I got a heart ablation done at the hospital. The whole ordeal took about 2.5 years, but that includes waitlist to see the cardiologist multiple times, wait list to see the electrophysiologist, and waitlist to get the heart ablation (during COVID when non-essential surgeries were temporarily paused) I have been symptom free since the procedure and I am very thankful that Dr.Varkey took me seriously.

Do note that she is not the type to prescribe you medication easily, that can be frustrating for some, but I prefer her investigative approach.

For punctuality, I find that I have to wait a bit past my appointment time to see her, it seems like she is overbooked.

She would not listen to your concerns. The moment you enter her office she would make her mind up about you and it is very difficult to change. She is like "I know it all and you patient don't know what are you talking about".
Overall she is a typical doctor you would encounter otherwise.

Dr. Varkey is the most anal retentive doctor you will ever see. She is defensive and unwilling to listen. Does not support a orient who advocates for themselves and if they do she says they are argumentative. She is only willing to prescribe meds and is not open to any alternatives. Please don’t Easter your time.

Probably the worst doctor I have ever seen. She sent me back to a job I'm no longer physically capable of managing. She spends too much time talking over me rather than listening and tends to be judgmental rather than considerate. She might have been better working in claims.

I have been a patient of Dr Varkey for 3 years. I find her helpful, efficient and thoughtful about what I need. Always punctual. Willing to answer questions.
