Dr Burger performed an endoscopy to investigate my heartburn and reflux. A sample of my ulcer was analysed as benign and I had a further diagnosis of hernia which is now treated with daily Esomeprazole.

Dr Burger has a friendly and professional manner which put me at ease and provided me with full information. His fee structure (and that of his anaesthetist) was welcome at No out of pocket expenses from my health fund.

I went to see Dr Burger after years of digestive problems. I was referred to a gastroenterologist by another specialist who was very concerned about my health. Unfortunately the waiting list to get into the gastro I was referred to was several years! So I regrettably got my referral changed to someone I could get into within a few weeks, which was Dan Burger.

I felt I was dismissed in the appointment, told my symptoms were not real & was asked if I "tried eating more fiber or putting my legs up on a stool while i'm on the toilet"... Yes, I did try those simple things before I decided to pay you $500 Dr Dan!

I was also told I was overweight (which wasn't untrue at the time) & I felt like my symptoms were not taken seriously because I was a few kgs overweight. Yes, only a few kilograms overweight, hardly obese!

Dr Burger went on to give me a colonoscopy at the Wesley. I was not even paid a visit from him to tell me what he found. My Mother ended up calling him the next day to demand my results which were large polyps which can turn cancerous. It felt like we were inconveniencing him by trying to find out the results!

My other issue is also that there was ZERO follow up with my GP. I was not given notice of when to have another colonoscopy or follow up treatment.
I felt I was just sent in for the colonoscopy so I'd shut up about my symptoms & then was left in the lurch to wonder what I am to do next.

Years on, I am now under the care of another specialist and have quite a serious diagnosis which could have been dealt with a lot sooner if only Dr Burger listened to me & didn't dismiss my symptoms because of his arrogance, inability to listen & my weight at the time.

I would NOT recommend this Doctor.

Whilst an inpatient under another consultant Dr Burger did a procedural endoscopy for me in the public system. He went out of his way to make the experience as comfortable as possible and provided in depth advice about what to expect and included me in the discussion asking about my expectation and preferences and he was more than willing to accomodate. He easy going personality put me at ease and I was more than happy to put my trust in him. I have also seen him while he was rounding on his other patients and I could see that his bed side manner is a notch above the rest. He cares about his patients and truely puts in the effort to help you achieve your goals.

Managed my Diverticulitis when I was admitted through the emergency department. Dr Burger provided me with a copy of my CT, pathology reports and a thorough explanation so I left hospital knowing exactly what my condition was and how to manage it.

At this stage I have only seen Dr Burger once but I am impressed. After the death of my long term gastroenterologist who I was very fond of and had great faith in I was extremely nervous about looking around for a new specialist. I did quite a lot of internet research over a few days and chose Dr Burger. After reading some reviews, the negatives one which I took with a grain of salt, I was still nervous. He put me at ease immediately. I found him to be knowledgeable and to the point. I can see how he may be taken for arrogant but that was not my impression. I am happy to have a confident doctor looking after me who I suspect will be not afraid to tell me what I need to know. I had an extended visit for my first appointment as he went over my medical history with me and advised me what he thought the next steps would be. I was pleasantly surprised to find he wanted to know all about my health, rather than just the issues that he specialises in. That impressed me as, in my opinion, our body and minds need to be treated as one, rather than in pieces like so many of the medical field seem to do. I am a big believer that we all need to take responsibility for our own health, do our own research and empower ourselves with knowledge rather than depending on a doctor to "fix" us and I am very hopeful that he will support me in my journey to do the best to manage my health. I left feeling very optomistic about my new doctor and grateful for a couple of new pieces of information and some plans to get things in order medically and be prepared if I have problems in the future. His receptionist was also lovely and efficient, both on the phone and in person.
