I would recommend Dr Moser, to anyone with pancreatic disease. I had a Whipple procedure July 29th 2015. Honest, direct and very knowledgeable in Pancreatic disorders. Great bedside manner.
I had the laproscopic Whipple performed
I was in the OR for 12.5hrs . He called my wife every two hours updating her. I It was a tough surgery to recover from and that was all explained to me prior to surgery. A whipple is life changing surgery just know that if you have to have it.. He is the best. I am thankful everyday for him. Life was back to normal after 3-4 months. Second chances in life don't come that often.
Any one who is battling this disease. please consider him.

I definitely would recommend Dr. Moser to anyone who need a pancreatic surgery. I was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, and Dr. Moser coordinated my treatment plan and performed a successful 11-hour Whipple surgery on me.

In my view, Dr. Moser is an exceptional surgeon, and I felt very safe going under his scalpel. I greatly appreciated his intelligence, his meticulousness, his direct and honest communication, his compassion for the patient, his dedication, and his courage, without forgetting his sense of humor.

Dr. Moser gave me hope and I owe him a second chance at life.

Would not recommend. My Father (late 60's) had a recent pancreatic surgery performed by Arthur (notice I refuse to call him Dr.)

After being referred by multiple hospitals we found ourselves under the "care" of Arthur. While insightful and somewhat knowledgeable, we found his bedside manner and rather personal care extremely poor. My father asked continual, routine questions and Arthur would either respond with one word answers or seemed to view my father as a pest for asking said questions. Following the initial surgery we contacted Arthur about some general questions- ALL calls were forwarded to his internal office voicemail and were ever returned. Poor treatment of staff and other office personnel . I found it quite unbecoming and unprofessional that Arthur would demean his staff in front of patients and fellow employees.

While knowledgable, would not recommend Arthur due to his poor ethical standpoint towards fellow people

I had a 3 hour surgery done by Dr. Moser, and I'm so relieved by it. I found Dr. Moser to be intelligent and tactful while dealing with sick patients like me. I know that he cares about his patients, their health issues and concerns, because my questions were answered, and my complaints were heard. Dr. Moser's sense of humor made the hospital experience easier for me as well. I would recommend this surgeon to anyone who needs it.

My mother in law was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer the summer of 2011. We were referred to Dr. James Moser by Dr. Patell of Erie Pa. She had the Whipple procedure done at UPMC Shadyside in August of 2011. She did chemo and radiation at UPMC Northwest. She had a few set backs with depression but she eventually got stronger and started feeling better. Then in October 2012 the doctors noticed an elevation in her tumor marker. The cancer was back in the wall of her abdomen. She was to get chemo again but she started loosing weight rapidly and getting weaker o chemo was out. They gave her six months more or less, well it was less. She passed on December 13, 2012. I think this time she totally gave up on life. She said she would be gone by her birthday and that was the day we buried her. I thank Dr. Moser for giving us that 16 months we had with her. He is a wonderful surgeon/doctor. He didn't beat around the bush about anything. God bless him!

Dr Moser inherited my Husband from another hospital, pancreatitis gone bad! I believe it was Dr Stang (? Spelling) that was very much on the ball and thinking when he called in Dr. Moser and emergency surgery/exploratory was done a couple hours later in which they SAVED HIS LIFE. Note: hubby arrived at UPMC without copies of CAT scans and some other records I have nothing but praise for Dr. Moser and all the Doctors in his service, a special thank you to his PA Maureen too, she is great and the young lady Dr. who thought of duo derm so not to rip off more skin with dressing changes which went on for months. The ICU nurses were beyond wonderful. Sorry for the 1 year + delay in this praise, we have been busy “living”

Despite his credentials, I would best describe Dr. Moser as being "aloof" with my family member who was under his alleged "care". After the primary surgery, Dr. Moser was very optimistic. Within two months time, he started to disengage from being involved. This caused us grief because of the hospital staff's negative reaction to his care, and to the sudden statements of hopelessness he made to our family. An example that I will cite occurred about 8 weeks after the primary surgery. Our loved one was admitted to Presby and she became very ill. She was halucinating and was in and out of conciousness. Dr. Moser came into the room with a full team of interns and spoke to her like she was fine and coherent. He told her, while ignoring the family members that were present, that she was acting "goofy" because she had a serious infection. He told her that she should plan to spend Christmas in the hospital, and he concluded by telling HER that she wear a drain bag for the rest of her life.

My mother had the Whipple Procedure (pancreatic dissection)performed by this surgeon. He was extremely knowledgeable, kind, and compassionate. This is an extremely specialized surgery with limited surgeons able to perform. He did an excellent job and probably saved my mother's life. He was very clear in his explanations and did not leave any questions unanswered. I would recommend him to anyone who may need pancreatic surgery.
