He caused my infertility by giving me an experimental copper T IUD in early 70s. I am also a DES baby with a small uterus and therefore should never have had one. I developed PID / severe pelvic infection from it when I was only 21 yrs old and on a summer trip in Greece. The doctors there didn't even know what an IUD was. One doctor even made a housecall to me in a remote island there on a donkey! From the PID I late had a tubal pregnancy which he was unaware of and did a D&C in his office. Only after I called his office several times to say I was sick and felt pregnant did he finally operate to remove the whole tube. All this created massive adhesions for which I had several surgeries to clean up the mess. I was sick all the time with chronic PID and cystitis. Unable to get pregnant and in constant pain I finally had a complete hysterectomy. When I asked him if I should sue the DES drug companies, he advised no. I proceeded anyway and ended up getting one of the largest settlements from a consortium of drug companies. Bad judgement all around.

Dr. Merle Berger is an excellent doctor. He gave me an opportunity to have a family when no one else could. He is very warm and kind. He is the only doctor who took my special case because mine is very unique. A lot of other doctors from other facilities pushed me away and said I would never get pregnant, but not Dr. Merle Berger...he had faith in me and that makes him a perfect doctor!!

From my very first visit through my last visit Dr. Berger has been nothing but kind, caring, and awesome. I have never had a doctor who has been so on top of things (this goes for the nursing staff too). Dealing with any type of fertility issue can be stressful, nerve wrecking, etc but I never really felt this way at all with all that Dr. Berger and his staff did. I would definitely recommend him and Boston IVF to anyone. Thank you for everything and for helping me to start a family!

I loved this doctor when I saw him, he was kind, warm hearted and told me exactly what I needed to know. He was also on time which was nice for a change, other doctors I've had to wait over an hour. Dr. Berge understood how I felt and made me feel like I was not alone. I LOVE HIM AND WOULD RECOMMEND HIM TO ANYONE!!!

I could never have children and 20+ years ago when he told me I was going through premature ovarian failure - he was heartless, cruel and rude - He is the worst and I will never get over my loss - I would never recommend him -

We saw Dr Berger a few years ago. He was totally disorganized and we got the impression that Boston IVF was a baby factory that cared only about making money. He gave me a different diagnosis every time I saw him and decided on the next month's treatment on the spot during our monthly 15 minute appointments. He was contradictory, in one cycle he told me he was positive everything had gone well and a few months later used that cycle as an example of why he thought IVF would never work for us. In our last appointment with him he told us IVF would probably never work and we'd be looking at using donor eggs. As I sat crying in his office his parting words were "peace". We moved instead to the Brigham and Women's hospital where a wonderful team of nurses and doctors came up with my treatment plan for IVF. It worked first time and now I have a 2 year old boy.

I wish I had read these comments before I went to him. He is arrogant and very rude. When my first IVF failed and I was crying, he said why are you crying ,there is no reason to cry. Going through a IVF with all the needles and wait is really hard specially if you are in the last of your reproductive years. He gives the choices so there is always only one possible sensible choice. I won't recommend him to anyone and his assistant was the most fake lady I had ever seen.Everything is just a calculation for him, not sympathetic at all.

This center is a money-making machine. We wrongly assumed we were in professional and capable hands when signing on for fertility testing at Boston IVF. We met with Dr. Merle Berger, who swore up and down that he was doing the most thorough genetic bloodwork-at $1,200 a test. After two miscarriages, three rounds of clomid and countless other needless medications, my husband and I were encouraged to try IVF. After two months off all medications we sought a second opinion. She did bloodwork (same as Dr. Berger had claimed to do) and discovered I had a genetic blood disorder that could easily be remedied with mega doses of folic acid. She couldn't believe Boston IVF had not caught this in all the blood work they had done. Two weeks after taking folic acid, imagine our surprise to find out we were pregnant! the folic acid was the missing link. I shudder to think of the invasive and expensive route of IVF we were being encouraged to take by Boston IVF. Do NOT go there-ever!

It's amazing that, 20+ years later, this guy is still pulling the same stuff. When we saw him in the 80's he was just as arrogant and negative as in this most recent rating. Told us that due to my husband's very poor sperm quality, we'd never conceive. Hello! Tell that to my two sons, now 25 and 23, who we conceived with that very sperm. When I think of all the unnecessary tears I cried...
