This man performed a neck dissection on me when I was 3 years old. My lymph node in my neck was removed when it turned out I had CSD - something that can be treated through a number of means prior to jumping to the removal of a lymph node. "Surgical drainage or fine-needle aspiration of suppurated lymph nodes is seldom necessary in patients with CSD" and surgery is considered "unnecessary". Neck dissections should be performed when there is the presence of cancerous cells - not CSD.
I had my lymph node removed and not only was I left with a large, obvious scar across my neck, since this point, I struggle to fight off basic infections. LN (lymph nodes) are involved strongly in the induction of immune responses in many different inflammatory conditions, so they play a major life-saving role in infections. I get about 10 flus/strep infections every year and I've occasionally struggled with lymphedema.
Lymph node surgery is known to "compromise the immune system’s strength", which makes this unnecessary procedure all the more heartbreaking. My quality of life has deeply been impacted. My parents should not have trusted this man, and I will continue to pay for his arrogance and poor judgement.
