I was having knee problems from about my late 30s. By 50 I was done. I was told by a lot of doctors they don't like to do knees before the patient is age 60 but mine were so bad Dr. Dobson said he would do my knees now. First one Sept 2003, second one June, 2004. Left hip done March 2010. As of today, April 6, 2024, both knees and hip are still going strong.
The same problem that took out my knees and hip also took out both my shoulders. Dr Dobson said he wouldn't be doing total replacement of the shoulders but he could recommend someone. I said "If he is as good as you then I'm in." He asked "Do you care where you go?" I said "No." I ended up in London with Dr Drosdowich who had worked alongside Dr. Dobson at the PRHC. Like my other 3 total replacements, both shoulders - 2012 and 2013 - are still going strong. I think a good outcome is due in part to the work the patient puts in afterwards with the physio therapy - getting that 90 degree (or better!) bend and any other exercises the physio recommends. Dr. Dobson is a good communicator and I never, ever felt rushed. Rose, on the other hand, can be very unpleasant but she has been with him a long time and I am sure does her duties to his satisfaction or she wouldn't still be there.

I'd urge you to use someone else.

Dr. Dobson did knee replacements for me on two occasions a year or so apart. The first knee has given me trouble since. If I'd known what I know now, I'd have gone to Sunnybrook or the Arthritic Institute on Wellesley in Toronto where they measure the joints before replacing. Dr. Dobson did not. My first knee was the last surgery of the day and I suspect it was the only joint left on the shelf. It's a regional hospital.

I would also say, I believe his interest lies more in the botox clinic he operates downtown. I felt hurried and unheard when I saw him.

I have had years of pain in many parts of my body for years. My knee pain has gotten so bad and after I have been on my feet the pain ,swelling become so bad I can hardly walk. I know Dr. Dobson and his team work extremely hard and I am so thankful for all he does, I need a partial knee replacement and hope and pray I can have better quality of life. I am too young to be in so much pain but I also know there is only so much they can . Thank you Dr. Dobson for your compassion and understanding I know there is only so much you can do and I really appreciate it.

Dr. Dobson did my husband's knee surgery and he did a wonderful job. All the times he has spoken to us he has been very pleasant and informative. We are very pleased with the results of the knee surgery. Seems very busy every time whenever we have had an appointment with him but takes the time to go over things with you and offers suggestions for a speedy recovery. We really like him and my husband will not hesitate to have him do a second knee replacement surgery when he has recovered and is able to do so. Thanks to Dr. Dobson for a great job well done.

I was referred to Dobson after months of preliminaries (GP visits, x-rays, physio, etc.). I was told to call Dobson's office if I hadn't heard from them within 2 months of the referral. I didn't hear, so I called. His office woman was rude and dismissive, basically telling me not to call them, they would call me. I asked when that might happen and she said when they were ready. After 5 months of hearing nothing I gave up and asked for my referral to be switched to another orthopod in town.

Honestly, if Dobson thinks it's okay for patients to be treated this way then I don't know how I can trust him when he's holding a knife and I'm unconscious. I'm going to someone else (who has a higher rating, by the way).

He found my problem required cmplicated surgery, after he performed the original procedure. Told me he won't perform the second surgery despite the 3 recommendations it should be performed. I guess he can't be bothered, no proper expnation. Avoid at all costs.

After years of pain, decreasing functional ability, and frequent hospital visits, I got my GP to refer me to Dr. Dobson. Dr. Dobson operated on my knee with great success; 1 year post-op and I have significant pain reduction and improved function. His receptionist leaves a lot to be desired, to be polite. She is disorganized, and can be quite rude. Dr. Dobson is fairly brief, and didn't go thoroughly into what to expect post-op, so this means you need to do your own research (e.g. outcomes, recovery milestones, and expectations, care needs/aids, etc). That said, he clearly answered the questions I presented.
