Dr. Steinberg is a wonderful doctor. He makes you feel very comfortable (as comfortable as one can be there) and extremely knowledgeable. I love him!!

I had an IUD installed at his office some time ago. The insertion wasn't so bad, but when he cut the strings he slashed into my cervix, causing an incredible amount of pain, ten times worse than the rest of the procedure. I bled copiously for days. I've since switched to another gynecologist, who was confounded when I mentioned this incident, saying she doesn't even know how on earth that would happen by mistake. Steinberg is also super rough: I used to absolutely dread his exams because he would shove an extra large speculum into me and not really care when I asked him to be gentler. I've had colposcopies and biopsies that were virtually painless at other providers, while the amount of pain I'd feel with the regular pelvic exams he'd perform made me so anxious about appointments. He uses really uncomfortable slang: I don't think it's appropriate to refer to the symptoms of a yeast infection as being "hot and wet?" I think he judges you by how nice you seem, and if you don't outwardly react to his grossness and roughness, just treats you how he likes, which is with cruelty.

My wife was referred to Dr. Wilfrid Steinberg by our family doctor. Within a week, she received a letter from Dr. Steinberg’s office with an appointment for the following week and a detailed description of the location of his office. Dr. Steinberg was very welcoming and allowed me to accompany my wife in his office. He carefully examined the MRI and ultrasound reports (without requesting unnecessary repeats) and performed the examination. He was impressively knowledgeable and clear in his diagnosis. He explained his finding clearly and thoroughly and he sent my wife for one additional test. Yesterday he phoned my wife at home to discuss the results of the test and follow-up. He never rushed, always listened to our questions and gave clear answers. It was especially important to us as English is not our first language. We strongly recommend Dr. Wilfrid Steinberg as a sensitive and knowledgeable gynecologist.

Out of curiosity, I looked up Dr. S. I'd just had a conversation with someone about our pregnancies and deliveries. Wilf delivered my two oldest sons (1985 & 1987). I had a very problematic first pregnancy and ended up in hospital at 28 weeks. I was in hospital for 2 weeks while they tried to make sure I didn't give birth early. He came to check on me every day - sometimes twice a day - even on weekends. When he finally discharged me, I was ordered home until delivery. I went into early labour at 34 weeks and he stayed in the hospital until my son was born even though he was supposed to leave 3 hours before. My second pregnancy turned out to be a scheduled C-section and I insisted that it be scheduled on a day when he was available. I refused any other doctor. I haven't seen him in 35 years but he is easily the best medical professional I've ever dealt with.

Saw him for a consultation about pain related to endometriosis, he did an internal exam and told me that I must have low pain tolerance. I never returned.

Pervert! He did an unannounced anal exam and when I challenged him, he said he didn’t warn me because I wouldn’t have wanted it. I had had a hysterectomy and was on estrogen, attending a follow up appointment to discuss continued medication.

This Doctor traumatized me. First of all he made comments about my skin tone (I am biracial half white half black). He told me i looked quite pale and yellow for a black person. He then proceeded to tell me it was fascinating that I had polyps because black women often have them. He proceeded to perform what i thought was a regular pap test. The pain was worse than any other pap I have had. A week after the test, I was still bleeding. When I returned for a follow-up, the doctor told me he had removed the polyp last time I saw him. I was completely unaware of this procedure. Made sense why I was bleeding for a week after. Horrible experience, would never go back.

Dr. Steinberg is exceptional. He is incredibly knowledgeable and clear in his diagnosis and treatment. He spends time with you, asks all the right questions and is wise and thoughtful. I’ve never felt rushed or misunderstood. What I appreciate most is he communicates your diagnosis clearly - whether good or bad - and yet he makes you feel like you are in the best hands. He’s a true professional and while his staff are overworked, they are efficient, kind and helpful. Don’t ever retire Dr. Steinberg!!
