I like Dr verka. She appears genuinely interested in treating you and offer sound advice. However, when viewing after visit notes I find disparaging remarks and untrue statements. For example, I told her due to my back pain I could not walk more than 5-10 minutes before I had to stop and rest my back for a short period. She told me to walk 20 minutes every day. WHAT?

She yelled at me. It was because she thought I was lying. Just like many other reviewers said. She's in too much of a rush to be a good doctor and when you tell her what your real needs are, she has no patience and is rude. When rudeness became yelling, I switched doctors. She has a chip on her shoulder. I respect that she got a medical degree in two countries, but seriously do you have to tell met hat nearly every time I see you?

I had to wait for 1 hour for my check-up. The doctor was too fast and pushy, she was rushing to finish the appointment.

I agree with another reviewer. Doctor Verka seem to be stressed out when seeing a patient, which reflects on her interaction with patients. She forget to write down her recommendations, except for the prescription. My impression on her was that she is just not warmest person I've met. She makes frustrated face expressions when you talk about your health problems, and it seems that she wants the visit to be as short as possible. I really wanted to like her, but I'm switching to another doctor because I want someone who doesn't look stressed or overwhelmed during my appointment.

Dr. Verka is on her game. She tells it like it is. I have Type 2 Diabetes and she is the first Dr. who thouroughly examined me. I wasn't taking my meds as I should have and it showed. She set me straight by asking me why I pay good money to see a doctor and not follow their advice. Yes, I wanted to get angry at her, but how could I when she was telling the truth! This was my first visit with her and my blood sugar was high. By the second visit, I had a spreadsheet to show what my blood sugar readings were; a list of all my meds I am taking; my diet; exercise log; and my blood pressure readings. Because of her frankness and professionalism I am now controlling my Diabetes and my readings have been the best they have been in years! I love her! Anyone that truly cares about their health, and want one of the best doctors around that really knows what she is talking about and is passionate about her patients health, make an appointment with Dr. Lisena Verka.

I am surprised at all the poor reviews for Dr. Verka. I've been seeing her for at least a year and she has been very attentive to my medical issues. Yes she does have an accent, but her English is perfect and she's easy to understand. And she does speak quickly at times so maybe that's why reviewers state that she seems in a rush; but she takes the time necessary to listen to me. She also takes the time to explain herself and she makes sure that I understand everything. At the end of every appt. she will again go through every detail so that we both agree and understand everything. She has been very thorough and I love having a primary care physician in the Duke system who actually cares about my health.
