Perhaps he learned a lesson from my experience with him (and others) because this man does NOT know how to communicate, period, end of story. His personality was definitely not one of patience or compassion. At times we found him very ill-informed on his monitoring of me, and also found him to be arrogant. Not only was he totally unaware of where i was being treated (i lived in a different city but commuted to Edmonton) (colon cancer), he also seemed to be very defensive on anything we asked or questioned. In addition, he was not monitoring me closely during my chemotherapy treatments, (of the 12 treatments I had, he face to faced with us only 3 or 4 times, my doses were high and remained high through out the treatments, i suppose due to the forms i filled out with the various nurses who would meet us, even tho i indicated i had been experiencing neuropathy. While out of province during a break, I ended up in a hospital due to a fever, and it was this hospital that determined i had experienced lung damage, and according to that hospital, likely due to the high doses of chemotherapy. I was immediately pulled from any further treatment. Follow up scans showed no more cancer (for that i thank the cross cancer) but my side effects are lung damage, and neuropathy, both permanent. However, follow up phone calls to ask other questions, he was actually helpful, and more positive. Easy to love this guy, equally easy to hate him. Whatever the side effect, I am still alive, and his aggressive approach to high doses likely helped in that regard.

He treated my husband for liver cancer after having the cancer removed surgically. I question his choices of treatment for my husband's cancer. They did not work and the cancer came back and killed him very quickly. Dr. Scarfe's bedside manner wasn't the greatest. He esp., didn't seem to want me (as the wife of the patient) to say much during my husband's appointmentments. This upset me a lot.

Dr. Scarfe is the worst doctor we have ever encountered. About a year ago we lost our son to colorectal cancer. He was assigned Dr Scarfe through the Cross Cancer Institute. He seemed to have no idea how to deal with a scared thirty year old man who is facing the worst thing possible. Dr Scarfe had no bedside manners at all and blurted out horrible things to our son, some things that were not true. Then, after loads of surgeries, radiation and chemo, just as the treatment was beginning to work and the tumours were disappearing, just because my son did not answer Dr Scarfe's calls a couple of times, Dr Scarfe just up and closed his file!!!!!!! Dr Scarfe had always had my husband's cell number that was answered at all times, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. But he did not call my husband. When we finally found out that he had closed my son's file in the middle of treatment, it took months to find another oncologist for him. We tried everything to get him another oncologist, but it just seemed like Dr Scarfe had blackballed him or something because no one would take over his file. Well, by the time we did find another oncologist, his tumours had come back with a vengence and it was too late. Since when is it ethical for a doctor to close a file on a scared 30 year old with cancer in the middle of treatment? I wish we had never seen Dr Scarfe. I will never forgive Dr Scarfe for what he did to my son. If you have the choice, stay away from this guy.

Dr. Scarfe is a gentle, polite, amazing man and an incredible Oncologist. I was fortunate to have met him after my initial chemo/radiation treatment to discuss follow up chemotherapy. He knew more about my medical history than I did. He explained everything in detail and assisted me in making my decision. I asked him to follow me during my surveillance and he agreed. He personally called me after each CEA an CT Scan as soon as he received the results as he knew I would be anxious to hear them. He was kind and compassionate, never rushed and always asked if I had questions or needed anything. When there was issues on my CT scan , he followed up with tests and procedures. Always carefully monitoring. I felt I was in good hands.
I was truly blessed to have this man as my Oncologist during my journey with cancer. Thank you Dr. Scarfe. I am truly indebted to you.

Dr Andrew Scarfe treated me 2014--2015 at the Cross Cancer facility in Edmonton during my treatment for Colon Cancer. On each and every visit he was professional, on time, knowledgeable, friendly and efficient. He may not be the most emotional person but in his role its hard to expect more. Dr Andrew Scarfe, if you ever see this this,,, Thank you from the bottom of my heart. I'll always hold you in a place of honor in my memory. Best Wishes.

This guy ROCKS! I can’t believe some of the comments, I also showed my wife and she was shocked... Couldnt imagine going thru this with any other doctor. Always on time, or very close to it, his nurse that worked with him was awesome. Always pretended to get my humor as dark as it is lol. Never rushed me or ever rushed through an appointment. Always made sure I understood, and never sugar coated anything.
