January 12, 2014 - My mother suffered a brain bleed while we were in Saint John waiting for my fathers Aorta valve replacement the very next day. Dr Al-Shayji was amazing with his explanation of how critical her situation was and how imperative it was for surgery asap just to save her life. The first surgery was successful, but 7 hours later a second was needed due to a second bleed in a different location, and again he and the staff were amazing. She spent 3 weeks in a coma then over 4 months in hospital rehab as she needed to learn how to speak, eat, read, write, and more all over again. We new of the damage possibilities prior to the first surgery, but 2 of then in 8 hours amazing she lived, and today functions normally in all aspects of her life except for the fact her left leg and arm are paralyzed which confines her to a wheel chair. If not for the amazing knowledge, skill and expedience of this great Doctor, we may well have been without my mother for these past 9 1/2 years. Thank you so very much for the life saving work !!! She will be celebrating her 85 th birthday in just 4 months. Absolutely amazing.

I'm very thankful for Dr. Al-Dhayji's care. At 35 years old I was diagnosed with an epidermoid cyst that had started affecting nerves in my face. He performed a 12 hour surgery to remove the tumor. He was extremely thorough in his explanation of how the procedure would go. I am very thankful he is my doctor. He is direct and knowledgeable. In my case, there is a chance I will have to have another brain surgery and I would want him to do the procedure.

I couldn’t find a better doctor to trust my life with. This gentleman is incredibly skilled, thorough, and compassionate. He is there not just for his patients, but for their families as well. It’s nice to know that when you have an appointment with him, his attention is completely on you. I never felt like I was tying up his time. Which is not always the case with healthcare these days. His secretary Krista has been beyond helpful to all my needs. Hopefully I never require brain surgery again, but if that’s what my future entails, he would be my top pick.

Dr Al-Shayji gave me my life back. He has done a vertebral fusion of my c6-c7 and a posterior decompression of my head including a skin graft from my thigh. Before going to him I was in a lot of pain and had over 20 symptoms from Chiari Malformation. Since my last surgery in Feb 2018 I am down to just a few symptoms and very few headaches which is a life changing thing for me and my family. He is kind and truly does an amazing job. All of my incisions healed perfectly and I have had no complications or infections. If he is your surgeon, rest easy because you are in excellent hands.

Last fall I was diagnosed with a large brain tumour that had to be dealt with urgently. Dr. Al-Shayji was very knowledgeable and very thorough explaining what to expect prior to, during and after surgery. He has excellent bedside manner and took time to answer all questions my family and I had including right after surgery in the OR waiting room. He even took the time to call me at home to confirm the benign pathology after I was discharged home. As well during my follow up appointments he continues to provide more details and expected outcomes for my recovery. His staff were always approachable and responded quickly to any phone messages we left. I am extremely grateful to have such a skilled surgeon in our area and based upon my outcome I would highly recommend him for this type of surgery.
