Biography

Thomas W. Jarrett, MD, is the Chairman of the Urology department at The GW Medical Faculty Associates. He is board certified in urology and specializes in minimally invasive surgery, including laparoscopic, robotic, ureteroscopic, percutaneous and image-guided therapies. He is a pioneer in the use of minimally invasive techniques for the treatment of multiple diseases of the urinary tract, including kidney, testis, bladder and prostate cancer. Dr. Jarrett graduated magna cum laude from Duke University and received his medical degree from Emory University. His postgraduate training was completed at Cornell University at the New York Hospital/Cornell Medical Center and Memorial-Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. Dr. Jarrett was a visiting fellow in urology/ultrasonography in Salzburg, Austria and completed his fellowship in Endourology and Laparoscopy at Long Island Jewish Medical Center. He previously served as the Chief of the Division of Endourology and Laparoscopy at the Johns Hopkins Hospital and Chief of the Division of Urology at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center. He has published research in a wide array of journals, including the Journal of Urology, Urology, JAMA, Annals of Surgical Oncology, Journal of the American College of Surgeons, Journal of Laparoendoscopic & Advanced Surgical Techniques, International Journal of Urology and Journal of Endourology. In addition, he has editorial appointments at the Journal of Endourology, New Technologies section, and the Journal of Laparoendoscopic & Advanced Surgical Techniques. Dr. Jarrett's professional memberships include the American Urological Association, the Society of Urologic Oncology and the Endourological Society. He has often been invited to speak abroad and has received numerous awards and recognition including the Resident Teaching Award at Johns Hopkins, first prize in the World Congress of Endourology essay contest and the Faculty Research Award at Long Island Jewish Medical Center. Dr. Jarrett is a US News & World Report 'Top Doctor' and was determined to be in the top 10% in his region specializing in urology!
