Dr. Canales was my & my siblings pediatrician growing up & then my children's. He has an insane memory and has been able to solve many issues because of remembering treating myself or family members for things similar and now in my children's symptoms. He has LITERALLY saved both of my sons from certain death. He extremely Yet knowledgeable and more importantly the most dedicated doctor I have ever seen. I have moved out of the city and across Texas and I still make the 600 mile trip twice a year so that he continued to treat my children. I trust him a 100% with the lives of my children my nieces my nephew friend's kids and beyond highly recommend him and his staff.

Dr. Roberto Canales is the worst of the worst. He prescribed my son the wrong medication. I took my son to another doctor and he told me it was the wrong medication. That's scary. All he cares about is to move you out fast and make more money. It's sad he killed that 3 year old because of his incompetence.

He's been my children's doctor for 34 yrs. I trust him 100 %. He's devoted to his career, cares deeply for all children and he's very knowledgeable and competent. I could have gone to many other pediatricians and wait less time in line, but I never did. I respect , love and appreciate him and truly thank him for his endless efforts, sleepless nights and never endjng devotion. God bless him always

Dr. Candles is an angel from heaven. He was my son's pediatrician and was his oncologist when he developed a brain tumor. After being flown to Dallas and being told they no longer had options, he did not give up on my son. He even prolonged his life a whole 5 years beyond what the head cheeses in Dallas gave us. His treatment allowed him to have a productive and full life with school, adventures and many supporters. My son loved this man and he had a very good judge of character. His staff in the oncology clinic became family.

I was a young mother and doesn't years relatively uninformed on available pediatric services in el paso. My mother had taken my siblings and myself to Dr. Canales for a while so I thought to take my kids and have been for years now, mostly because I'm used to the clinic and staff. First off, I haven't actually Dr. Canales there in the flesh for years, which I assume is due to his age as he was a senior back when I was young. Yes, seeing a different doctor everytime was bothersome but I allowed it because with medicaid I wasn't sure where else to go. Dr. Canales himself was always an acceptable Dr. He made it to the birth of a couple of my children and circumcised my first born, doing an excellent job. He has never misdiagnosed an illness or been unkind, but that's all semi-important. Now that I'm more mature I can tell you that the "rotating doctor's" issue isn't great. I've been going for years and have never been welcomed back because no one knows who you are. The only doctor who recognized is ever was Canales himself, other than him the staff and other doctors rotated so much they never remembered us or seemed to care. It feels like a day clinic more than a private physicians office. A couple months ago I took my son and the doctor who was available really looked overworked and under-concerned about his flu like symptoms. I have come across a couple of great doctors there over the years who, if they had their own pediatric office, I would definitely attend, but that's all. Everyone else has been "okay" at best. And it seems no matter what the illness, all my children have ever been prescribed was ibuprofen. Stomach ache? Ibuprofen. Nausea? Ibuprofen. Flu? Ibuprofen. I understand it's an anti-inflammatory but some antibiotics would have been nice. The staff has never been exceptional, which I attribute to the mass of patients that go in and out everyday. You might get a personable one every now and then but I never walk in expecting it. Oh, and the wait time... for as long i remember, the wait time was at least 3 hours, sometimes even 5. They've gotten a lot better though, with the average at the west side clinic being 1 to 2 hours. I can't speak for the east side tho as I recall their wait times being the worst. I've tried to circumvent this issue by setting appointments, but for the most part it makes no difference. So overall, it's not the worst clinic and I dont think any doctors that go through there come with the agenda to be unhelpful or misdiagnose, in fact I believe many of them do their best; but if you want that special privatized care treatment then this isn't the place. I am grateful for dr. Canales' years of service to us, but I am finally ready to explore other options.

INCOMPETENCY. That is the only proper word. We have been part of very long waits, inpolite staff and incorrect medication. In all gbe time I have been here I still do not know what Canales looks like. He is never in his trawood office. Nurses will pass people at their convenience even if you were there first and when you finally get there be assured that you will have to return since you sed a different doctor every time and they don know your medical history therefore you dont heal the first time.

At the time of the appt., my daughter was healthy & only needed vaccines. I had a very long 5 hour wait (5pm - 10pm) with a very polite staff. At one point I had to sit on the floor because all the chairs were taken (50+ people *I actually counted). I am unhappy because I asked a simple request of the Dr. "ONLY give my daughter REQUIRED vaccines to enter Kinder this year" (I have two older sons who had severe reactions in the past to vaccinations, one of which went into convultions), so I delayed our daughters vaccines in hopes to curve reactions. Dr. Canales proceeded to give my daughter 3 shots that were NOT required by Tx. I didn't know this until I did more research after she had severe reactions to the shots: 105 fever, vomitting, stomach cramps, and nose bleeds on and off for 14 days. Please, if you ONLY want REQUIRED shots by the state, then Google: "2012-2013 Texas Minimum State Vaccine Requirements for Students Grades K-12" and print it before you go to any doctor.
