An absolute smart, caring, skilled surgeon and a wonderful human being. Performed a brain procedure on my father and was meticulous with the details, and made us feel so comfortable with options, surgery, etc. Do not think twice about seeing him. The best surgeon in Canada - and an absolute life saver (literally). His admin, Cristina, also very organized and a pleasure to work with. Dr. Cusimanos office is busy, but that is expected from such a skilled surgeon in the heart of DT Toronto. I do not know where we would be without him. Many neurosurgeons around North America train under Dr. Cusimano - and that should be telling enough of how great he is. Thank you, Dr. Cusimano!!

Dr. Cusimano performed spinal surgery on my husband. He was walking 2 days later! He takes his time with patients, he cares, he checks in, he is everything a doctor should be and more. His reputation speaks for itself and I am so grateful that he is my husband's Doctor!

ONE LUCKY GUY!
How do you rate someone who just saved your life!!
After several years of experiencing a variety of symptoms such as absence seizures, memory loss, abnormal character and personality changes, bouts of rage, progressive weight gain and other odd behaviours, I was finally sent for an MRI and an EEG by my General Practitioner. This was years after being mis-diagnosed by my previous attending Neurologist.
The MRI clearly identified a massive Tumour (6.3 x 5.9 x 4.7 cm) in my skull compressing my brain. The EEG also confirmed seizure activity in my brain.
I was lucky and grateful to have been referred to Dr. M. Cusimano at St. Michael's Hospital for an assessment and treatment. I understood at the time that he was one of the best Neurosurgeons in Canada.
From the onset of taking my case Dr. M. Cusimano and his staff displayed a high degree of professionalism and worked diligently in setting up all the necessary appointments and tests required for the pending surgery: A left frontal craniotomy and olfactory groove Meningioma removal surgery.
Even with his busy schedule he took the time to explain all aspects of the surgery to me and my family (Wife and Daughters) in plain and simple terms and listened very carefully to our concerns. This gave us confidence in his ability to perform the procedure.
After the 13 hour surgery, Dr. M. Cusimano contacted my Wife and Daughters to compassionately update them on the outcome. The surgery was deemed a success without complications.
What else can I say but that he is a miracle worker and takes on cases that other Surgeons would not dare to touch. I have great respect for this Doctor. I can't even begin to express how grateful I am to have him as my Neurosurgeon.
His Nurse Practitioner Martine was like an Angel to me and always there looking out for me at every step of the way and even being there after being discharged from the hospital when we had any concerns. Dr. M. Cusimano’s Staff (Martine and Cristina) were always available and calls were promptly returned even on the weekends.
My friends and family can not believe how quickly I have recovered. Only 6 weeks after having major brain surgery I was able to participate in the Princess Margaret Hospital "Weekend to Conquer Cancer". My Team and I walked 5K for the PMH Brain Tumor Centre.
Thank you so much Dr. Michael Cusimano and your Team for your kind and compassionate care. You saved my life…I’m ONE LUCKY GUY! LT

My husband was diagnosed a year ago with a large pituitary tumour that impaired his vision. I came across Dr Michael Cusimano’s name on this website. The reviews I found here at the time, plus a bit of extra research, led to my decision to ask that my husband be referred to him. Everything, from first visit with the doctor to surgery and post-op care/follow-ups, went as smoothly as can be. Dr Cusimano came to talk to me right after the surgery to describe his findings and reassure me. Despite Covid times, he proved kind, patient, reassuring, and helpful in every aspect - an extraordinary doctor and human being.

Dr. Cusimano has been my neurosurgeon since being diagnosed with Trigeminal Neurolgia . In 2019 he performed two different procedures, gamma knife and a rhyzotomy. Unfortunately TN has no cure , only chance of trying to fix it. And these have not worked. He has offered me the MVD surgery, Which will probably be the next step. He tells it like it is, which I appreciate. He listens, and spends time with his patients, which not many specialist do. He has ordered MRIs, and allows me to have them done closer to home. Truly appreciate having him as my neurosurgeon. And appreciate his staff N/P Martine and Christine .

I had a specialist diagnose me with a brain tumour and they fast tracked everything to St. Michaels. The tumor is the size of a softball and I know I may not be around if I didn't get the treatment. Thank you for your work.
