Dr. Vanek has been seeing my daughter, who has special needs, for more then 5 years. She treats my daughter like her own, is very kind and patient and calls her ,"my baby", which my daughter loves. Dr. Vanek fights for her patients if needed, she really does care. We don't mind the wait as we know we are getting the best care possible.

I was written off by almost every single doctor I saw about my idiopathic intracranial hypertension. After meeting dr Vanek she had my surgery scheduled within a week. She was extremely knowledgeable, very thorough in her examination and history, and one of the kindest and most endearing doctors I've ever had the pleasure of meeting. I find a lot of doctors have lost to the ability to communicate effectively with their patient while remaining professional and compassionate. Irene does not have this problem at all. She is funny, quirky, and nothing but kind. She knew everything there was to know about my condition and never ever second guessed me or thought it was crazy. This woman downright changed my life and made me believe in doctors again

She is such a wonderful dr. She went above and beyond to help me. She’s very knowledgeable and made me feel so comfortable. She takes her time with you and doesn’t rush you out the door. I’m thankful to have her as my doctor.

Dr. Vanek is an amazing doctor. I am disappointed by the negative reviews I have read. When I told her I thought she was funny (because of the way she worded things / abrupt bedside manner, very to the point), she actually ended up mentioning to me that she had aspergers/autism spectrum disorder and that she has struggled socially her entire life. She is an amazing doctor and person, having graduated both high school and university early and was teaching university level optometry courses by the time she was 24. She is out of this world smart. She has a deep deep care for her patients, which can easily be missed if you decide to focus on her lack of proper communication skills/abruptness. I found that she spoke quickly and moved quickly from one topic/idea to the next, kind of as though her words can’t keep up with how fast her brain is functioning. Do your best to listen carefully and if you don’t understand or miss something, do not hesitate to ask her to explain or repeat. She will not be offended, even if it sounds like she is. I am so grateful to have been referred to one of the best doctors I have ever had the pleasure of meeting. Sometimes I can understand how the way she speaks may feel condescending - try not to take this personally - the woman is truly just extremely smart and lacks good social skills. This does not make her any less amazing of a doctor, just different.

I have been a patient of Dr.Vanek for some years now. She is very knowledgeable in her profession but lacks personal skills. You never know what mood she will be in when you see her. She is either very nice or really rude. I have noticed that she says snarky or petty comments that come off super unprofessional. There is also sometimes lack in communication between her and her staff. Super long wait times which I understand she is on call but I have had to wait up to 6 hours sometimes to see her. You definitely need to take the day off to see her. I have since changed specialists as I had a bad experience with my recent seeing her.

I can not stress enough how polite, professional and knowledgeable this doctor is. She truly is a Gem and I’m so grateful for her, I have never been treated so kindly by a doctor in my life.
