Saved my life and helped me get back to work. Quirky sense of humor but it works for me. Always has my best interests at heart.

I had zero issues with Dr. McMullen. Are there “kinder” Dr.’s out there? Absolutely. Does he seem to lack compassion? Maybe. Does he do his job? Absolutely. Don’t go to see him expecting to walk out with “feel good” vibes.

This doctor only entertains bipolar patients. Will diagnose you as bipolar, whether you are simply depressed or suffer anxiety. He is not interested in exploring any other diagnosis, or your personal opinion. Because he doesn't do talk therapy, his only option is medicate, medicate, medicate. After mixing two bipolar medications, I developed a severe movement disorder that has made my life a living $#@&. Very rare, he said. I guess I won the wrong lottery. He then suggested a myriad of similar medications. I ended up back with my family doctor who put me on an antidepressant, and am feeling much better, aside from the movement disorder.
No doctor is perfect, but to be honest, I wish I had never met this man.

My son had an appointment with this doctor and he could not bring himself to go that day. Rather than this doctor being understanding they refuse to make him another appointment. You are a Doctor who specializes in people’s behaviours and mental illness, you think you’d be a little more understanding. If somebody was so down that day they couldn’t get out of bed you should recognize that as part of the illness. However reading his ratings I think we dodged a huge bullet was missed!!! This doctor is obviously full of himself and only cares about the money versus the patient’s well-being.

If you’re a hammer, everything looks like a nail. You will walk in there, and you’ll come out with a bipolar diagnosis whether you’re bipolar, or you are not.

Dr.McMullen is all ego! He is not a good listener and cuts one off if he doesn’t agree with what you are saying.I would leave his office feeling worse then when I arrived. He is not empathetic, he is gruff, he is patronizing,he is sometimes a bully. Please ,please choose another doctor...this man thinks he knows it all...so he doesn’t get to know his patients.Ego maniac.Worst experience I have ever had with a doctor.

BEWARE!!!!
Please please take heed!
You are seriously rolling the dice on your mental health and ultimately your life, with this doctor.   He truly believes the rest of his profession are incompetent rendering him an authority (a lone wolf were his words) and that most people formally diagnosed with depression actually have an undiagnosed bipolar disorder. This is not my opinion, this is actually what he explained to me during our session. Presumably for that reason, he is strongly motivated to strengthen that narrative by diagnosing a high number of people with bipolar disorder and subsequently prescribing a cocktail of psychotropic drugs.  If you’re not actually bipolar, (as defined by most other professionals and the DSM IV)  then you fall into a category with the majority of people. Some people have had their lives seriously damaged by this narcissist’s misdiagnosis.   For myself, I saw him to gather information about an  r.t.m.s  treatment that my psychiatrist and I were considering for me as a possible alternative therapy to medication.  He BEGAN our session by warning me that a bipolar diagnosis was a possibility and then after only 45 minutes, he did exactly that.
Let that sink in....
45 minutes and he thought he had enough information to diagnosis me as bipolar, even though in the past 15 years of seeing a reputable psychiatrist as well as a respected psychologist for depression /anxiety, never once did they consider me bipolar.  He also tried to convince me to change psychiatrists (to someone he knew) as he acknowledged that my current psychiatrist was unlikely to agree with his diagnosis and would not prescribe me the psychotropic drugs he felt would be appropriate. Rest assured that although some people with bipolar disorder may have found him helpful (even a stopped clock is right twice a day) this doctor is dangerous and should be avoided at all costs. There is a strong common theme among the ample negative reviews here. Do you really want to gamble  with your life?

Dr. McMullen has made my life so much better. I am so thankful for this man's presence in the world as a doctor. For years, I have struggled to get help and be understood and, after my first two appointments with this kind gentleman, I finally feel heard and hopeful again. He is caring, understanding, sympathetic, knowledgeable, and has helped me significantly. I don't know where I would be without him!
