I am almost 70 and disabled. I fell down the stairs at my home and my left ankle was painful and swelling. I decided it would get better. After about 4 hours the pain shot up so I phoned Telehealth. I was hoping for some advice on how to treat my ankle. The nurse insisted I had to take an ambulance to the hospital immediately because it might be a fracture. I refused but she was adamant and said an untreated fracture could cause death. So I called an ambulance. The ambulance attendants were beyond wonderful. A while after they left me in the hospital, Dr Gannage came up to me and handed me an almost empty hospital form and said I would have x-rays immediately. He asked me if I need x-rays of the leg as well as the ankle. I said I don't know. So he said he would x-ray only the ankle. Why is her asking me? I'm not a doctor. I waited over 2 hours while people came and went. Eventually I called over an employee and asked why I was the only one with this sheet of paper. She said it was in the wrong place, took the sheet, and disappeared down the hall to my right. No explanation. None of the staff paid attention to the sheet or me sitting there for so long. A few minutes later Dr Gannage appeared and asked me if the x-rays were done. I said no. He immediately started speaking really loud and said I was in the wrong place and I was treated very unfairly and shouldn't have had to wait so long. He kept repeating this so loudly that the entire hall of people stopped talking and watched us as he wheeled me to the far end of the hall while repeating those phrases over and over. He informed me I'd be x-rayed soon because there is no-one else waiting for an x-ray. He said since I had been waiting so long, he will review my x-rays immediately. He left me facing the wall at the end of the hall. I eventually figured out how to turn the wheelchair around so I wasn't facing the wall. When the x-rays were complete I was wheeled to the far end of the hall facing the doctors. I saw him helping several other people while I waited. Eventually he came over to me and informed me there were no fractures, so I could leave. I asked him how I could get out of there and he said there's nothing wrong you can walk out. My foot was still swollen and unbelievably painful without me even walking. There was no way I could walk out of there with that foot when my disability affects my mobility. He told me I don't need crutches, just walk out and he left. Another employee came over after he left and asked me if I wanted crutches. I said yes. She asked how I was going to leave and I said I needed a cab. they got me crutches, ordered a cab and wheeled me to wait for the cab. From beginning to end Dr Gannage, was unprofessional, rude, uncaring, and left me with the feeling that he was actively trying to be all those things. Given the other reviews of this man, this seems to be a pattern of behaviour that Southlake should address.

Was told multiple times I was wasting his time and I should be grateful that he's willing to do anything for me. He made a couple requests for specialties and when they couldn't make, I was told again that it was my fault (The ER isn't a place for chronically ill patients apparently) and again, I should be grateful that he's helping me because it isn't his job to do what little he did for me.

When he determined his treatment plan, I was not allowed to disagree, ask questions and/or explain the situation and my concerns. I know the ER is horrendously busy but I have NEVER had a doc in the Southlake ER that spoke to me, even remotely like Dr. Gannage talked to me. My mother was with me and he yelled at both of us, causing me to have a SEVERE panic attack, and my mom to cry. We were again both told if I wasn't going to do what he wanted, I was wasting his time and shouldn't have come into the ER.

Four different times he saw me in the hallways of the ER. Four times I had managed to calm myself down and made it clear I needed space from him. Four times he came over to yell at me again, he threatened not to treat me if I didn't do exactly what he said, and told me that I was again, being unreasonable and didn't have the education to back up any suggestions on treatment ideas I might have.

At points he threw paperwork at me, he ripped paperwork out of my mother's hands, and he proceeded to discuss my health in an open waiting area for anyone else to hear (so much for patient privacy). He also made sure to say that if I wanted to kill myself (I absolutely did not), by not doing what he wants, it wouldn't be on his watch

If you find yourself in the ER with him as your doc, run. He is rude and dismissive and doesn't have the knowledge in my immune disorder (which I wouldn't expect him to know, but that's why ER docs create a treatment plan with me instead of for me) that was needed to make a proper diagnosis. At the end of the visit I went home with no treatment and I was septic. By the evening I was in the cardiac ICU in Barrie because I had spiked a 40+ degree temp and the pacemaker I have kept discharging because of infection.

Dr Gannage is very attentive and empathetic. He is very experienced and has an extensive knowledge about medicine and is quick to help you with whatever has ailed you. I came in with my grandmother who was in a lot of pain and he very quickly identified she was having a heart attack and acted incredibly swiftly to get her admitted and treated. She doesn't speak English and he was incredibly patient with her and explained everything that was happening to us. My family is so grateful for his work.

Dr Gannage is an incredible asset to the Newmarket community. He has helped my family numerous times in the ER for an enlarged spleen and cardiovascular issues. He has even extended himself to make phone calls to follow up, which most doctors do not do. He once spent over an hour stitching my leg, to reduce scarring. He is very caring towards his patients!

My gf went in for a lifted nail, after an X-ray determined the toe was not broken, he decided the pain really shouldn’t be that bad(she was in unbearable pain unfortunately, which caused him to have a huge attitude towards the situation. He touched the affected area over the wound garment which unfortunately was hurting her to much, he then dropped everything and said you remove the bandage I’m going to see other patients(again with an attitude). I managed to remove the garment by not touching the hurt area and carefully cutting around within a few minutes. After a while we were able to get him back in to take a look, he instantly requested another doctor to take a look and say everything looked all good. Problems arrived again after continuing to say it shouldn’t be hurting this much, my gf rightfully so was upset after he told her she shouldn’t be in pain, gave her an attitude and walked away. The cake took it when I stood up to tuck in my shirt, which I was in the middle of doing and was ordered by him to sit twice! I explained that I was tucking my shirt in and he called for an officer. The funny thing is I was the only calm one the whole time so I found this amusing. Another doc came in, we wanted to leave, he explained what they had to for the injury, which he did very politely after turning the officers away I think after realizing I clearly was not “threatening” him as he called it, I am tall but comon. All in all we say for 3 hours to find out a toe wasn’t broken(which we didn’t suspect) and have a horrible time being told by a sassy dr that she shouldn’t be hurting this much. Imagine your big toe nail lifted and did a full 90 degrees off the toe, I think it’s safe to say there’s expectations of serious pain. No arm cut off but not a walk in the park either. As a doctor you’d think he’d have a tad bit more sympathy towards injuries.

Terrible experience. Had him as a doctor in the ER at south lake. Totally dismissed any of my symptoms and feelings. Sent me home and said all I was experiencing was anxiety, wrote me an anxiety med prescription and said I was basically wasting the ER’s time. Ended up in the ER again with a new Dr who actually listened, received a proper diagnosis of postural orthostatic tachycardia, not anxiety!

I had very good experience at the ER I wish he has his own practice. Went with DVT like symptoms, he ordered US and then showed me the result that it is Bakers cyst and gave me a brief what it could be
