I just had the worst appointment of my life today. I've had issues with their office in the past, but today was the first time ever that I stood up for myself and truly saw Milton Wong for who he was. He walked in the room with an attitude (because I rescheduled my initial appointment), and then proceeded to challenge me when I told him that my pump was failing and has been failing for months. Also, even outside of this occurring, I told him I would need to move away from the pump I have now anyway because the company carrying my supplies will be discontinuing the product and I have to get something new by the end of the year. I stood up for my health for the first time in my life after having type 1 diabetes for 24 years, and I was challenged by him, scolded, yelled at, and asked questions in a condescending tone. I even told him that how he was treating me made me feel like I wasn't a patient and I felt like a child, and he laughed. At one point I also told him the way he was handling the conversation was incredibly unprofessional, and he snapped back immediately saying, "what, this isn't unprofessional!" In the end, we didn't get anything done, I still have a pump that isn't working properly, and I called the office this afternoon (per what he told me to do) for an update on the nurse's next actions of checking to see what new pumps are covered for me and I was told she didn't do it and to call again next week Wednesday. This is a doctor that knows a patient's pump isn't working the way it should right now, and will also be discontinued at the end of the year, and you and your office are de-prioritizing even contacting the pump supply company to evaluate what options are covered under my insurance? That sounds like malpractice to me.
I am proud of myself for finally advocating for my health, but I am also very aware that doing that will mean a delay in my treatment and next order of supplies needed to survive. And that's terrible. To anyone reading this, please do not see this doctor or their office, and go find someone that will take care of you and advocate for your health the way that you deserve to be advocated for.
