Dr. Yan is very knowledgeable and personable. I appreciate that he hears my concerns and sends me for appropriate tests etc. He is definitely busy and doesn’t have time for chit chat, but I don’t want him to be my friend, I want him to be my doctor. And that, is what he is, a really good educated Rheumatologist.

I went to see him over a year ago. As many others said, he was very condescending. He treated me like I was crazy and it was all in my head. He did send me for a bloodwork though, and said he would contact me if anything was wrong. If I didn't hear from him, then everything was fine. He never did, so I thought I was OK. Until 10 months later, my family physician accidentally took a look at the result of the bloodwork ordered by Dr. Yan and found one antibody was way above the upper limit of the normal range. My family physician asked whether I knew that, and obviously I didn't. So I asked him to refer me to another rheumatologist. I just come back from the other rheumatologist today. And obviously he didn't think it was all in my head as Dr. Yan did, instead, he took it quite seriously and gave me a very long list of bloodwork (15 tubes of blood were drawn).
When I went to Dr. Yan, there was a lady working for him as resident. She was gentle and willing to listen. If Dr. Yan forgets what EMPATHY means, he should learn from her.

Absolute a** of a doctor. Basically talked my ear off telling me that it was all in my head. Wouldn’t listen to my concerns whatsoever. Don’t waste your time. His assistant I saw at the beginning of the appointment was very nice. I wish she was the doctor instead.

I went to Dr. Yan years ago and he was very condescending, dismissive and rude. He didn’t do any tests or bloodwork and yet told me I didn’t have any autoimmune disease although I already have 1 and it makes you more likely to have additional ones. He flat out told me i was malingering and just wanted money. No actually I want help with my pain and help to get my life back so I can work again ! He then wrote a letter to my family doctor stating that such and such bloodwork should be done just to make sure( but he is the one who is able to order them not her as he is a specialist) . Complete waste of time , further the shaming that he does made me even more depressed than I already was. I should have complained to the College if Physicians and Surgeons. Doctors, specialists need to have compassion and listen to their patients as to what their days are like as well as, do actual testing to get to the bottom of. People actually would prefer to feel good and well and be able to have a career that they worked hard for then be incapacitated by illness and pain...I believe any positive reviews are either from patients who present the way he “wants” them to present and/ or are absolute lies...

For a number of years I was very fortunate to have had an excellent Rheumatologist by the name of Dr. Peter Chiu who recently retired from practice.

My family Doctor booked an appointment for me to see a new Rheumatologist specialist Dr. Alexander yan

When i arrived at Dr. Alexander yan office I was met a Very cotises and friendly lady receptionist, who introduced me to Dr. Alexander yan excellent assistant’ I have no doubt that she will be excellent Rheumatologist herself. I was able to talk to her about my history pointing out how it was effecting my day by day living with terrible pain that nothing seem to elevate it. She gathered a lot of notes from me and listened to me, i spoke for at least 30-minutes I was most impressed by her professional manor.

Then i met Dr. Alexander yan, he was everything I could have ever asked for:
Exceptional knowledge, he is very much a people professional Rheumatologist,
i spoke Dr. Alexander yan in his office for an hour. I am now feeling so much better that I am once again living life without without pain

Thank you Dr. Alexander yan.

Not at all helpful, very belittling and misinforming. Such a mix of reviews on here, the Dr must be bias, racist, or sexist in some way! Do not waste your time with Dr. Yan!
