Definitely does not go above the call of duty and not much for a bedside manner, particularly with children. Fortunately some other great doctors have moved into her spot at the Signal Hill Medical Center. I would hesitate to recommend Dr. Shankel

Dr. Shankel has been my doctor for over 10 years. She is an amazing physician. She diagnosed my daughter with a rare infection when she was only 10 days old. The emergency team was shocked that my dr. had picked this up in a routine check-up. The infectious disease specialist said that I had an excellent doctor.

She has been my doctor for 15+ years. Excellent follow through on issues/concerns. Very knowledgeable - looks for other alternatives! I appreciate her beyond words. She is a diamond - too bad she took off to Nova Scotia! I wish I would have been notified. She knows and remembers family history and takes measures to insure that I am doing all I can to guard against the cancers that plague my family. EXCELLENT DOCTOR!!!!!!!!!!

This doctor is very helpful and knowledgable. She is always on time. She is always on top of all the new things that come up in healthcare.

I have always found Dr. Shankel to be no-nonsense and experienced. She knows when to intervene and when to watch symptoms, she does not overtreat. She has never made me panic about the little things, regarding myself or my 14 month old son, by giving me too much information. She has always done her best within her scope of practice to serve me and my family, and comes highly recommended from other MD's who have trained under her. Thanks Mary Jane, for everything, and we miss you in Calgary!
