Yes there’s always been a terrible wait time at Dr Thornes office... so I either booked early in day, and Always bought lots to do!
Regardless, there has never been a more kind, caring and knowledgeable specialist. He saw patients from ALL over Ontario, being in such high demand.
I’m a Microbiology technologist and his kind of expertise, cutting edge science/research, balanced with the kindest nature makes him sorely missed.
I have met so many ppl with RA who are in constant pain , struggling; I have never lived like that since going to him. Pain-free except flairs.

ENJOY YOUR RETIREMENT DR. THORNE. You will be sorely missed (No pun intended 🤣😅)

I have been Dr Thorne’s patient for years but am getting fed up. Since my family members are doctors in related specialties, I know the only reason for his long wait times is overbooking. If he had efficient office staff who talked to the patients when making appointments, they would be able to estimate the time needed for each patient. The only reason a doctor should be over 3 hours behind is if he got called out on an emergency. It is a good thing that he is a knowledgeable doctor as it is all his practice has going for it. The patient who said that there are wait times everywhere is incorrect. My family physician, who has a very large and busy practice, two of my other specialists, my surgeon, and my dentist never keep me waiting more than 15 minutes.

I have been Dr Thorne's patient since July 1981. I actually had to wait for him to open his office in Newmarket so I was one of his first patients. I have not one bad thing to say about Dr Thorne. He has been there for me in the good times, bad times and really scary times. He knows me and all my medical issues like the back of this hand. I wouldn't trust any other Rheumatologist like I trust him. I dread the day he announces his retirement. Wait times, hey there are wait times everywhere. I always say the best is worth waiting for.

I'm very displeased to see a lot of the comments on here. Dr.Thorne is an amazing doctor and I have nothing but good things to say about him. The wait time issue- He is a very busy man. I've been going to rhuematoligist appointments since I was diagnosed at 18 months old and I can tell you THERE WILL ALWAYS BE A WAIT TIME. Plan the day accordingly, I do. Bring some snacks, a book, and some patience, or find a doctor with less people to care for. Dr.Thorne is great at what he does, and he cares about his patients. Wait times are everywhere so, you kind of have to expect that. It's not a 30 min oil change.

By far the most amazing.. knowledge.. kind.. helpful.. compassionate Dr and staff members I have ever had the pleasure of being refereed to and coming in contact with. Within less and a year my world was flipped upsides down.. it took me three + in the morning to get going and then struggle through out the my days walk.. lifting and just doing the simplest of tasks.. walking my dogs. He has taking this once vibrate, joyful.. full of the most life 39 yr old and almost brought her back. I have been a patient for nearly 10 yrs (he is my 3rd Rheumatologist) and can't believe a few of the intentional malicious reviews (I wonder if it is the same person). Are wait times long? yes, but this is the norm for a Dr. of his caliber. He has only so many hours a day and days of the week, so I appreciate the 3 hr wait, once (or more) times a year, rather than no wait time every 4-5 yrs. I love that he has a nurse do the work up for him, and although his face time with me may be brief, he answers every question I ask, and discusses any concerns. I have had student Drs. a few times and have no problem with it because the reality is Dr. Thorne will not be working forever and it's nice to know that there will be Drs. that are trained very well. Speaking of his nurse, she is present throughout ALL his examinations, so it is utterly ridiculous, and slanderous to say he is ever inappropriate. I think it's time that RateMDs verify the identities of it's reviewers, since they allow so-called reviews to trash a Drs. character and cross a legal line. I have no problem revealing who I am, and wonder if the reviewers with the egregious claims are willing to do the same?

Dr. Thorne is a good doctor, it seems like he has lots of knowledge and he is really care and trying to help. My problem is his unprofessional way of touching you. Leaning very closely towards you and at times whisper into my ear as well as very long hugging handshakes. He might just be a very warm person but he needs to know the boundaries with his patients. Not sure why he us doing it.

He is knowledgeable in his field, but very rushed and long wait times, which he does apologize for.Listens only to his nurse who has done all the preliminary workup before he arrives. A handshake is okay but any other inappropriate touching is not welcome. Either is leaning in too close, staring into your eyes or keeping one hand on your hand while talking. As for pain inquiries, "Take more tylenol" is not acceptable. Writing prescriptions for biphosphonates without explaining the risks (fractures of the femur, terrible heartburn) is not being responsible to the patient. Otherwise he is good and quick to refer to an orthopaedic surgeon which gets you on the fast track if needed.
