Top-notch detached-retina surgery: one eye; fantastic result and long-term effectiveness! That was my experience with Dr. Martin. His well-explained recommendation made it easy to accept, and by gosh, it worked!!

Dr. Martin is one of the first Dr's that has treated me with compassion and  true care since the outset of retinal ischemia and bothersome symptoms which started in July. It's been very challenging to articulate my perception and even harder to find a Dr. that understands how negatively impactful such symptoms can be despite being minor on the scans. My life has felt like it's been on hold since these symptoms showed up in many ways and Dr. Martin gave me a space to share what I was dealing with and genuinely listened to my concerns rather than just brush me off as I have felt other Dr's have. He was extremely thorough with my work up and care around the retinal ischemia and listened to me when I told my other symptoms were debilitating. He was open to exploring some options to help alleviate my symptoms and help me return back to work as I had to step away temporarily. Although I'm grateful to be provided with healthcare in Canada, navigating an overloaded system is extremely disheartening when you only have a small window of time to express your concerns and explore root causes/solutions and finding a Dr. who doesn't treat you like a number and rush you out after a short dialogue is even more challenging. I didn't feel that way with Dr. Martin, I felt heard, he was patient with my questions. He was humble and compassionate and it makes a true difference when you're at a vulnerable point and dealing with vision issues. I'm very happy I was connected to this Dr. and would recommend him  to anyone.

Completely unprofessional operation. They rescheduled my appointment on me, notified me via email, and when I replied that I could not accommodate the new time, they ghosted me. No reply, no call, no email.
My family doctor reached out to them to help me, and they REFUSED TO SEE ME anymore because they claimed I "no-showed."

This is how they care about their patients.

Dr Martin is a FANTASTIC doctor. He takes time to explain everything, but furthermore will show you all your images and explain options and reasons for everything. I am a younger person and was terrified when I had to have a laser procedure done, he was incredibly compassionate and empathetic and even stopped the procedure as he could see I was bearing more than I could handle, no anger no aggression, just absolutely understanding and kind. I love Dr Martin and hope he NEVER retires

This is a wonderful doctor who really prioritizes patients. He realizes that some cases are urgent and literally a matter of 'seeing/ vs not seeing' and will squeeze you in and save your eyes. Would I wait a bit longer knowing this? Absolutely. He is down to earth, kind, and takes the time to educate if you want to learn. He is well respected among peers and there is a reason for this. We hope he does not retire anytime soon. Dr. Martin, you are amazing.

Everyone on here owns their feelings about their experience, so I am not dismissing anyone, but I need to speak up. I was sent to Dr Martin with what was thought to be a cancer tumour in the back of my eye 25 years ago. He has met me 1-3 times per year since. He has done laser surgery to heal diabetic leakage and treats me great. He is the top ophthalmology guy in Hamilton. Is he cocky? Sure. Try being the best for decades and see if it doesn’t make you overconfident. Also, I see many medical pro’s and they are all a bit cocky. Research this field; it’s a high pressure medical specialty with a high rate of dr stress breakdown and drop-out rates. He has organized his office to rotate patients through multiple hands for efficiency/profitability/keeping pressure manageable. Sometimes my appointment takes too long, but I’m thankful I can see! So, sorry, I hope he doesn’t retire!

Dr. Martin has been treating my Mother for years and is great. I often sit in, less so with Covid, but she is pleased with his care and manner, as am I.
