Referred from out of town. Had surgery last Friday and checked out against their advice on Sunday evening due to the terrible state of the ward. The room was freezing cold. We had no blankets for the beds, all we had were your hospital gown and one sheet. The bathroom was filthy and small. The nurses were run off their feet and every second piece of equipment was broken. We all had sore backs and necks from the hard plastic beds. The food was horrendous and once mine arrived still frozen. I was so happy to get home and warm up, be able to wash and change into a clean nightgown and have some hot food. If I had stayed there I would have gotten sicker. I am still waiting for test results from 3 weeks ago and the biopsy from the surgery which I was supposed to find out during surgery. The doctor here said I had two types of cancer based on a blood test no other cancer centre uses for diagnoses. He told me I had colon cancer, no symptoms, no tests of any kind, etc and he is a gynecologist. I am not scheduled for a colonoscopy until next month. The areas of the hospital that the patients don't use are bright shiny and new, the rest of the building is old and in need of maintenance. I will never go back there. If you are referred to there say no and run.
Had joint replacement surgery , left in recovery for hours , family never notified , was so drugged , no physio came for a few days , nurses always angry , always complaining , left patients calling for help , sent home unstable , worst experience and I'm left with a problem joint and no one to help !
What should be a low risk cancer is jeopardized because treatment keeps being delayed well past the 60 days after surgery. Staff are not accessible to talk about concerns. Facility is overbooked for tests so they are not ordered or done in a timely fashion. All this increases stress and the feeling of being a lab experiment rather than a person. If my cancer returns after treatment, I feel it will be a direct result of delays in receiving treatment in a timely manner.
Have had surgery there three times. Was impressed with cancer surgical team and reconstruction team and surgeon, however the hospital stay was truly disappointing and, in fact not at all helpful in my recovery, especially the first 24 to 48 hours after surgery. (This was when I really needed help and respect as I was was helpless with immobility). I remember being so thirsty and no one would come to help me with water. This happened frequently. The day time nursing staff were not very caring and appeared angry, They were really loud at there work station and so I could not sleep. I was on a post surgical wing on the third floor. I honestly dread the thought of going back there. The room I was crammed into must have been an office or supply room before. The uncleanliness of the old wards is astounding. The cleaning staff were barely there. ..especially on weekends...floors and bathrooms are not regularly cleaned then. Putting more time into cleaning and smiling at patients ina caring way would help. I do not understand why this hospital has full time employees who just walk you to the examination room but can’t have enough cleaning or possibly nursing staff. It is a shame.
