Based on the reviews I guess he must be a good surgeon, but as a doctor in the ER I hope no one has to experience what we did. He is extremely arrogant, rude, condescending, and at times even immature (talk about ego). Not just to us, but to his nurses as well. I will never forgive him for his behaviour during what was an already traumatic situation for me and my family. I hope he sees this, learns to be more professional, and question why he ever became a doctor. He simply did not care about us and made it obvious by not checking in on us (and then putting down a nurse who called him out on it). At least the nurses cared.

Doctor Gunning did my open heart surgery. He is so kind and listens without rolling eyes.😂😂
He’s compassionate and caring. And very charming.
If I ever have to have this done again , I’d want him to be my surgeon.

I went to visit my ill father at RCH and this doctor was eating in front of us, didn’t santize his hands, and then proceeded to touch my dad’s neck without any PPE or mask on. This doctor is competent, but is not following any covid PPE guidelines. PCC charge nurses and an RN have confirmed this has been address on several occasions but he doesn’t abide by it he works with covid patients and then ill patients such as my dad who are cancer ans cardiac immunocompromised. Something needs to be done immediately about this.

Dr Gunning, performed quintuple heart surgery on me, November 5, 2018. A day I won’t forget. He and his dedicated staff gave me another chance on life. Not a day goes by that I don’t reflect back on how lucky I am. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. Cheers, Ron Paley

I am here because I just want to say all good things about Dr. Derek Gunning. Honestly he is the best in what he does. He did my mom's open heart surgery. True I see from the comment below and I totally agree, he is beyond an amazing Heart Surgeon.
