Dr Appavoo is a very competent and compassionate physician with a clear understanding of psychiatry. I recently lost a family member to cancer and was highly recommended to her for assessment and treatments. I think without her care and help I would not be where I am today.
I am very blessed and fortunate to have her as my psychiatrist. I can not thank her enough for all that she has done and I still see her on a regular basis. five stars for this amazing physician

Dr. Appavoo is very responsive, kind and authentic. She is also knowledge about psychotherapy and medications. She has a busy general psychiatry practice, but finds time when one needs to see her urgently.

Dr. Appavoo is in the wrong business. She does little to help her patient, her staff are disorganized and I truly feel she should do patients a favor and take up another profession. She can't reply to referrals in an appropriate manner, passes the buck back and forth to the family doctor and won't take responsibility to assist patients who are struggling. I know that Psychiatrists are hard to find but do yourself a favor and wait for other options.

I had almost died twice in one month from suicide attempts, I was than sent to Dr Appavoo and for the next two years she helped me tremendously, i have not felt the need to kill myself since. I still think about it all the time as that is part of my mental dissability. She was only overbooked once in those two yrs but i gladly waited. She sat an listened to me for the full hour and made great sudgestions to improve my QOL, yes she did up my medication and with good reason, i feel much better today. Had i not moved from Calgary i wouls still be seeing her!

I originally went to Dr. appavoo thinking I was more affected by one disorder but as time went on two separate psychologists both diagnosed me as bipolar 2 and not borderline which was her original diagnosis. She refused to change it and said I don't even have a mood disorder, wouldn't change my meds which clearly were not working as I was pulling over to the side of the road crying, suicidal, barely functional. My anxiety was spiking and I was told I had to learn to work through it. I went back to my family doctor who changed my meds to something else and it was night and day. I now have my family doctor managing my bipolar/OCD/anxiety because not only could Dr. Appavoo not diagnose it correctly, she also couldn't treat it correctly. I'm still nowhere near where I should be but I'm a lot closer than where I would have been had I not gotten independant diagnoses and advise on how to treat. First rodeo or not, it's time to listen to your patients.

horrible. Condescending, clearly lacks experience, only treatment she provides is in pill form. No counselling, no delvling into deeper problems/ root causes. If you want her to condescend any other approaches that you've tried to treat your condition, and then have her offer up a far worse suggestion (that you know through experience in terms of efficacy and side effects) involving numerous medications, all with a laundry list of side effects. Her advice to patients is dangerous (for an insomnia patient who is finding sleep with a certain herbal remedy, was told to go off the herbal remedy as it could be causing all of the symptoms that I had before even starting the herbal remedy, then tell them to stop it, start on pharmaceutical medications, that in the past have not worked at all, and have lead to dangers with lack of sleep and poor performance at work, told just to not sleep for 6 months, risk job and livelihood, just to chase a poorly based theory) Awesome work Doctor (????)

I found Appavoo is quick to rely on prescription meds rather than determining if other health issues may be a contributing factor (she had me on at least 3 & ready to prescribe a 4th until I put on the brakes.) Indeed it turned out I had other health issues which contributed to my disorder. I found her to be condescending and abrupt leaving me feeling worse after having seen her. She clearly lacked compassion and her advice for dealing with depression was to tell me to just 'force' myself to do things, so obviously is not well versed in treating this disorder. She's a stickler for having patients arrive on time but doesn't provide the same courtesy. After finding another doctor who helped me tremendously, I was then able to see how badly she truly handled my health issues.

That's so funny. I was the guy that had that ladies appointment. I was sitting right there when she walked in. She is right this office is scary bad when it comes to keeping things in line.

She is great but whoever is running that office should lose their job. I had an appointment booked for months, received a confirmation call 2 days before my scheduled appt., I took time off work, had a substitute cover my classes, showed up 10 mins early and was told that there had been a mistake and the doctor had been overbooked and that there was no way I could see the doctor that day. I should have insisted but I was polite and Canadian and walked away. I then received a message telling me of my rescheduled appt time and asked to call back to confirm. I made child care and work arrangements to make it to the second appt., called to confirm and was told "no" that would not work and asked to call back the following week to reschedule AGAIN! Poor office management!!

This doctor is amazing. She is likable, known her stuff, and helps patients enormously.
