Based on the previous comments, this doctor must have a Jeckle and Hyde personality, because all those that I have spoken to seem to agree that this guy has no bedside manner what so ever, however, there also seem to be all kinds of positive reviews. He does NOT talk to you or make any kind of small talk at all and then when the surgery is over he doesn't say a thing. You aren't even sure if you should leave or not, or what you should do. He is old and may be losing his short-term memory, which would explain such behaviour, otherwise he seemed to know what he was doing.

Saved my life. His fast diagnosis, fast surgery and insistence St.Joseph's (Hamilton) surgeons treat me quickly saved me from certain death. Our community is so lucky to have this fantastic doc.

This guy is great. He has done surgery on me MANY times. One of them was a lifesaver! I went to ER and no one there believed my symptoms cause they couldn't figure out what was wrong with me. The doctors sent me home while I am writhing in pain on a stretcher. I went home and my condition got worse. The next day, I couldn't sit or stand and I had an infant to look after. My husband got up at 6am to leave for work and I begged him not to go. I told him that I knew that I was going to die if he left me there alone to go to work. He takes me back to ER and THANK GOD! Mattar was there. He knew something was wrong since I have a high threshold for pain, and I was completely freaking out. He gave me pain medication and decided that he couldn't send me home. He said he had to have a look inside, and 3-days later I woke up with answers to my problems, and proof that I was very very ill when no one else would believe me. This guy saved my life. Thank you Dr. Mattar!!!

Had an inguinal hernia operation yesterday, am up and around today with managable pain. This is the second hernia operation I have had but last time I was bed ridden for 4 days. Dr. Mattar is straight and to the point which in my opinion is a good quality. Unless something horrible happens over the next week or so I'm very impressed all round with the service I've received.

There is certainly something to be said for small town doctors. After being diagnosed with breast cancer, Dr. Mattar performed the lumpectomy and he and his nurse looked after the referral for follow-up treatment. This resulted in a very quick response and development of a treatment plan. Their prompt attention helped to make this journey an easier one. I am well on my road to recovery and am very grateful to Dr. Mattar and his wonderful staff for their professional and kind care.

Great experience. He seems to love to do surgery...which was a great thing for me! He understood the pain I was having, and helped me to get my surgery for gallbladder removal very quick! Post op was a quick visit - but still helpful, and didn't have to wait at all!! Now I feel 100% better, and will be able to enjoy my honeymoon!

I had a supra-pubic catheter inserted years ago and I almost bled to death as a result of his incompetence. It was just day surgery and I never left the hospital for a week and a half. When I was in day surgery recovery at around noon I was bleeding something terrible and the wonderful nurse Barb Hall kept calling Dr. Mattar to come and he just brushed it off Then when day surgery was closing around 4 pm., Nurse Hall insisted I not be released and I was sent to a ward. Finally around 6 pm Dr. Mattar showed up and he immediately took action, I was given blood right away and I slowly recovered. It turns out the catheter was never in my bladder, just in the wall of my skin. Then the next day he came in to see my mother & I and preceded to explain to us that we were lucky he got there when he did or I may not have made it. He, in my opinion has a God complex, and I will never let him touch me again and urge others to be careful when choosing him also.
