My complaint is specifically about Dr. Bixenman. My mother waited over 3 months for this appt, as he is one of only a few neuro-ophthalmologists in Arizona. I can’t be sure what rubbed him the wrong way, but he was completely rude and unprofessional. He was triggered by the fact that my mom was wearing a mask. He offered no introduction. He was rude and inpatient gathering information that my mom needed to look up. And when my mom said he was making her feel agitated, his response was “good”!!! How in the world do you get to be that old and that rude in the profession you’ve done for years? I don’t care what knowledge or degrees this man has attained in his lifetime, nobody should have to submit themselves to being belittled like that when they are just seeking medical attention for a condition that is new and scary. You failed today, Dr. Bixenman. I don’t know what kind of doctor you have been in the past, but if this is how you do business daily, it’s time to retire. You were awful to a good person. Not recommended.

The office staff messed up my appointment. No one knew what the other one had done.
Dr Bixenman was inappropriate & gave me an incorrect diagnosis.

Top notch doc with broad experience. Saved my sight through timely and accurate diagnosis of retinal tears and instant referral to a retinal surgeon. See him every year.

Referred to him after being admitted to ER at the hospital. Was told they had my MRI for the appointment, but he said he didn't have it when I got there but said he didn't need to see it to tell me there was nothing wrong. This despite a diagnosis from multiple doctors who had seen the MRIs. Told him I wanted him to see them anyway. His staff said they would request it. When I called to follow up was told they would only request the MRIs when I made another appointment and he would view them at that appointment but not outside of an appointment. Can only make one appointment a year since he is not on my insurance. Absolutely awful, completely uncaring and irresponsible treatment.

Dr. Bixenman is the only neuro-ophthalmologist in Tucson & we are lucky to have him! He's been treating me for years due to a serious issue for which I have had brain surgery & radiation. He is totally thorough in each exam, professional, helpful, & funny :-) I am grateful he is on my medical team & hope he doesn't retire soon (or before i'm gone!).

Dr. Bixenman was recommended to me by a friend several years ago and I can honestly say that I'll stick with him until he retires or I exit this life--whichever comes first! It is refreshing to have a doctor who can combine humor with extensive experience & knowledge while going through exam results. He really sees each patient as a person and tailors his explanations to help that individual understand the relevant medical information. As a former university professor, I know how hard it can be to stay energized when presenting info for the umpteenth time while recognizing that the data is new for that audience. Dr. Bixenman also welcomes a patient to really be a partner in her/his own healthcare rather than demanding "my way or the highway, next patient please"! And I very much appreciate his staff members who administer tests over and over again every day all the while remaining personable and efficient.

Dr. Bixenman's exam is always thorough. He is willing to spend as much time as possible to make sure the patient is totally informed and knowledgable about the conditions and exam results. He gives each of his patients equal attention and therefore the prospective patient should be informed that Dr. Bixenman's practice is not a "slam bang kind of thing." He cares about each patient. To provide an example of Dr. Bixenman's patient care, I arrived mid morning with an eye condition he quickly diagnosed as having a serious retina issue. He was able to get me to a specialist within 2 hours. This is exactly the kind of physician you want treating you under these kinds of conditions. Dr. Bixenman has my highest recommendation.

Excellent doctor. I normally see Dr. Bixenman once a year and leave his office knowing I have
had a thorough eye exam.
