I saw Dr. Manvelyan in the late nineties when she has her own practice in Pasadena, California. At my first visit, she diagnosed depression because I became tearful when she asked of history. She prescribed celexa. At follow up, I noted I was having a little trouble falling asleep. She prescribed Remeron. At follow up I gained 30 lbs and she noted she no longer accepts HMO so she can’t see me anymore. I’ve never lost the wait or regained the sleep schedule of 11 pm to 7 am I created at my first job out of college and had an HMO where you can’t see a specialist without seeing your primary first. Managed care, not fee for service. I’m wondering what her experience in mental health and psychotropic side effects are to prescribe me brand new, name brand antidepressants. There was not one peep about the potential for weight gain and what to do if you experience rapid weight gain. With her oath to do no harm, left any body confidence I once had. FYI, most antipsychotics cause rapid weight gain as well. I’m thankful there is this outlet for me to share my experience with her. I did get immunized for hepatitis B during her care, one star.

Dr Manvelyan is very caring and knowledgeable. She will do more than just write a medication script and send you away. She takes the time to explain what is going on, what you can do such as exercise or whatever, why you need a test or whatever. She is really an outstanding doctor that I recommend highly. Sometimes you wait a little bit but she takes her time with patients and I think thats why you may wait a little bit. Office is nice, staff is very good, MacDonalds for coffee right next door even. I've been to many docs over the years and she is by far the smartest, nicest, and most concerned with you as a person.
