Dr. J has taken care of me, my children and now my grandchild for over thirty-five years now! Several times, I have witnessed him carry his bicycle up our front steps to make a home visit - even on the darkest, rainy winter afternoons. He has made his emergency number available to all our family. One epic summer day, we were in Washington when our son-in-law had a dizzy spell. We were uncertain if he needed hospital care and called Dr. J. Within 30 minutes, he called us, evaluated the situation and, with full knowledge of our son-in-law's medical history, assured us he was fine. Indeed, he was and we carried on with our family holiday. Dr. J is supremely ethical, a careful listener and EXTREMELY busy. Wait times can be long and we accept them as his care is so exceptional. Natalie is always kind, accommodating and a soothing voice on the phone as we frantically try to get our loved ones in for an emergency appointment. Natalie is the peaceful ballast to Dr. J's busy, wonderful practice. Our family truly LOVES him! THE BEST GP IN CANADA - nay, THE WORLD!

He takes a great deal of care with his patients. I am so grateful that my family has him for our doctor. He has gone above and beyond for us in his care many time! Would highly recommend him as a trustworthy physician.

I have been a patient for many years. Dr. Johnson is extremely knowledgeable and caring. Many times he has gone above and beyond for me and I consider myself very fortunate to have him as my primary care physician.

Always follows up with you on previous appointment. Is generally there for you and actually cares about his patients. A little eccentric but in my book that is a bonus. He will take the time necessary to help you which means he does that for everyone. Be prepared to wait if he's running late for honest compassionate and decent care. If you watch the clock this may not be the place for you.

He’s just an amazing family doctor. I don’t want another one. I want him as my family doctor today, tomorrow and forever. He care for his patients and makes sure that you are perfectly fine when are his patient. He’s simply an Amazing family doctor

I switch doctors in 2012 to Dr.Johnston and so happy I did. My old Doctor never listened to me, was flippant and condescending and I got sick of her rude demeanour. I was worried about having a male doctor but he is simply the best. He loves his work and it shows. He is an amazing human that listens and gives suggestions rather than telling you. I recently saw a specialist who wanted to prescribe more medication when I was already well below the high zone for my issue. He personally phoned me to discuss my options. He listened, related, showed extreme empathy and validated I know my own body and needs and taking this medication would have more down side that up at my age. I wasn’t in any danger zone and young enough that we could keep an eye and see where things go. His opinion and knowledge is so vast and I find him so open to his patients ideas as well. Very rare to find in a doctor. He refers me whenever needed and his office manager Natalie is incredibly organized and always will find a way to get you in or a phone call during the pandemic. I’m so thankful he took me in as a new patient through my husband years ago.

Our Family has had Dr J for 30 years he is the most dedicated doctor I have met over my years he never rushes you he knows his stuff you can reach him anytime always calls you back if you need him after hours .Example my wife ended up in the emergency at RCH DrJ called my wife to see how she was doing on His Weekend very concerned I out his patients he’s the best
The office staff always fits you in and has been great I would give them a higher rating if I could

Dr. Johnston seems to be quite outdated. He only does in person appointments during a pandemic. He does not seem to look at the whole picture for a patient. Medicine, in general, has a bias when it comes to women and patients of colour. There are many articles to support this claim which you are free to Google. It does feel quite apparent when going to Dr. Johnston. He tends to be quite condescending, and can make a person feel belittled. It seems, although I cannot ascertain this claim, that he doesn't seem to keep up to date with new practices in healthcare.

In terms of punctuality, you can sometimes end up spending hours waiting. I have been going to him for multiple years, and I have had times where I'm spending 2 hours waiting. As a person who values my time, this is not ideal.

Natalie is not the kindest person. At times, she will look at what you're getting a blood test for, and may give a judgemental look. It is quite intrusive. I do not feel comfortable going there, and plan to change doctors.

The only reason I'm writing this is not to be bitter, but for people to consider all factors when finding a doctor. Given Vancouver's shortage in finding a family doctor, I understand that he may be your only option. I would say if you're looking for a basic check-up, he may not be bad. However, if you want a doctor who actually can get to the root of the problem, he is not your man.

Became his patient in 2019 after my previous family doctor retired and he was kind enough to accept me even though his office was not formally accepting new patients. I have a complex medical history, multiple issues that need careful monitoring and management that cannot be relaxed - in other words, a physician's nightmare patient.
Dr. Johnston has been an awesome doctor, on top of my issues without being in my face, and guided me through some treatment changes that have been both simple as well as successful. I am pain-free in my back for the first time in about 5 years and my other ailments are receiving better attention than at any time in the recent past.
Dr. Johnston has even made a home visit when I was unable to visit his clinic and that says a lot about his care and concern, both as a physician and as a human being.
