Dr Buwembo seemed very caring and kind with a good sense of humour :)
He is a very busy surgeon but took his time and explained everything in detail

I am so lucky Dr. Buwembo was on call when I had a horrific surgery performed by Dr. Kumar. My first interaction with Dr. Buwembo , I was a little unsure. He was so quiet and reserved didn't seem to take command of the situation. Over the next couple of days he proved himself to me with his strong, steady confidence. He went in to remove the inferior work of the first surgeon and explained clearly to me what to expect in the next two months before he will be able to go back in and do the surgery correctly. I am very grateful for this man and have great confidence that he will finially fix my pain issue.

Ok'd spinal fusion on my 71 yr old father-high bp, diabetic, liver aneurysm, stenosis, osteoporosis, arthritis, neuropathy, heart arrhythmia...amoung other things. Post op dad made it well known to staff he had a debilitating nauseating headache and his neck was locked-couldn't move. Dr did not order ct UNTIL THE FIFTH DAY OF HEADACHES! Surprise! Cerebral fluid in his brain AND BLOOD! Still did not put shunt in. 6th day they did a MRI. Still blood. Still no shunt. That night while they still didnt plan on a shunt My dad died of a stroke. Top 3 symptoms of a hemorrhagic stroke-debilitating nauseating pressure headaches, severe stiffness, confusion. A neurosurgeon missed obvious signs of stroke. He and Dr rao then said it was likely amyloidosis. A blanket diagnosis. But then that means they didn't evaluate his stroke risk before surgery bc they would've done a ct. If they suspect amyloidosis they should have done brain scans before surgery to evaluate stroke risk. If the symptoms fit after they were there before. Neurosurgeons should know this. Dad's leg problems may have been somewhat bc of his brain all along. No matter what way you slice it my dad is dead bc an arrogant Dr passed over symptoms and missed diagnosing a stroke-in hospital. They claim there was nothing they could have done but they had 6 days to act to relieve pressure and control bleeding but they didn't. They should have acted after 2 days of these symptoms and they didn't. He stroked on the 7th day. They just gave him Tylenol and gravel for 6 days and ice packs on his neck. Then when he was sedated from the stroke they did not fill us in entirely on his condition. We had him on life support for 10 days. His basal ganglia was damaged but over those 10 days we were only ever told only his oxypital had been affected.
Add insult to injury when we switched to comfort care we were told they'd give him meds to suppress saliva so dad wouldn't gasp and choke and that has be in some special chair and machines would be silenced. So I brought my 6 yr old in to say goodbye. None of this was done. He was gasping and gagging and laying down and the machine was beeping. My child became terrified. Incompetence at Regina general lead to my dad passing away. A neurosurgeon missing signs of a stroke for 6 days killed my dad.

I've been a patient of Dr. B'S since I was 22 (I'm now 34). He has preformed approximately 24 spine and brain surgeries. I love his disposition and quiet confidence. He truly has compassion and empathy, compared to many docs in the neurology/neurosurgery department. With my conditions, this wonderful man has been directly responsible for saving my life 4 times. Since my first appointment ever with him, he was late. My appointment was at 3pm, but got caught up on a case in the operating room and saw him at 10pm.. Though he may run late, he spends as much time as the patient needs and is great at explaining and ensuring patients. I don't mind waiting in pre-op or his office, but he is meticulous and thorough. Over the years I've seen him, he has had the same woman in front. The first six months, she talked to me with a crusty attitude, but after she knew I wasn't going to be a one surgery patient, she very much dropped any negativity. If anything for the last ten years, if I need to see Dr. B., I explain what's going on and she will schedule me in quick or if he's on call, she'll tell me to go to the ER. I never complain about wait times, because whether it's in the office, ER or OR, I know he is give me all the time my case requires and thensome, and he'll give the next patient, the same kind attention. He is not arrogant, he is compassionate, he is thorough and does patient education based on patient ability to understand. Coming up I require a surgery that requires a neurosurgeon that specializes in the endovascular part of the brain and the technique was created in the last ten years. I asked him if he's seen it and hasn't. I asked him if my surgeon in Saskatoon is open to his observing the surgery if he would come to Saskatoon and he said he would adjust his schedule to come and observe and possibly assist, since he believes there is always opportunity to learn something new.

I had surgery a week ago Friday. It was not the surgeon I had met before as Dr. Buwembo was in call.
I was extremely lucky to have gotten him. He did surgery 12 hours after we met.
He is so gentle and calming and is so soft spoken. He answered every question we had and explained what he needed to do. He was very comforting when I got to the OR and after. I had surgery at 5:30 p.m and he still had 2 more!!
He checked on me after his surgeries and came every day. An absolute gem of a Dr. and Regina is lucky to have him. I highly recommend him.

Amazing doctor! I was lucky enough to have him perform my emergency Laminectomy and Discectomy surgery as I was suffering from a herniated disc causing cauda equina syndrome. He looked at my MRI in the emergency room and had me in the O.R within an hour. I had been dealing with pain for 10 years that snowballed the month before and I couldn't move, eat, walk, work. The moment I woke up the pain was gone. No complications, perfect incision, great follow up, great office staff, great bedside manner. He is a high educated wonderful individual.
I have been in pain for 10 years and he saved my life. I can never thank him enough.
