Dr. Ocana's assessment process for ADHD(3 or so visits) is worth the the time it takes. He's very educated & well experienced, & therefore he's not quick to throw anyone on the incorrect meds nor miss hidden hidden issues. His personality has seemed laid back and non judgmental. I looked long & hard for a Dr./Psychiatrist/Therapist who knew the right questions to ask & the right treatment for the answers. If the meds you're on feel wrong & talk therapy isn't enough, I strongly recommend him.

I have known Dr Ocana for a couple years. He has a thorough understanding and sincere compassion for the problems pain and misery which often torment illicit drug users. He has helped me a great deal in understanding the underlying condition behind my addiction. I am blessed to have been introduced to him and have great hope that his work will yield much fruit and help break the chains of bondage in the lives of addicts and others suffering from add/adhd He has the right ideas about adressing self-medicating addicts. We are very lucky to have Dr Ocana in our area and I would encourage anyone who is frustrated with the lack of empathy and understanding concerning addiction/add issues in this to consult him.

For the record, this is dr Ocana commenting on the feedback on this site. When I read the first few comments I was devastated. I actually had to look up arrogant in the dictionary, since no one had ever used that word to describe me before. I think it's worth considering that when you are one of three doctors on a small island you have to be self assured. Patients lose confidence in drs who are wishy-washy. In a crisis, we are taught, "occasionally wrong, but never in doubt". That is not always appreciated. Some patients have their own opinion about what is going on with their health. They just want to check in. Sometimes their views, influenced by the media, are quite at odds with the "medical" answer. These patients may be offended when we disagree with them. When you have 12 years of post secondary education and 10 years of practice under your belt and checked in with opinion leaders you tend to say things with confidence which can be misread as arrogance. Point well taken.

My name is Ryan Cody. I am suffering from severe schizo effective bi-polar desorder. I am currently under the care of Doctor Anthony Ocanna. I have suffered with this disordered my entire life. When I was a child, I had symptoms of ADD. In my teen years the disorder became life threatening. And into my 20s was often admitted to the hospital. Doctor Anthony Ocanna became my doctor by praise from my mother. This was the best decision made to my behalf. Doctor Anthony Ocanna's approch is the is very clear, and this is how I got better. I extol Doctor Anthony Ocanna's efforts and thank him for his efforts.

I was under care by a psychiatrist for bipolar (?) for seven (7) years. My medication (Divolproex or Epival) went from 300M to 3,000M per day and at times I had serious bouts of depression for which Wellbutrin was added into the mix. I was no better off at the end of care through these years of so called treatment and became a Zombie. When I first met Dr. Ocana, I went with my wife who saw me differently than how I saw myself. He concurred with us that I had Adult ADD. Dr. Ocana took me slowly through medications that he thought would work. At no time did he perscribe anything that he had not investigated. After a short time, (six months) I came to a place on my journey where my golf score was lowered by 20 strokes (I can now concentrate), I can read without skipping paragraphs, my moods (road rage) subsided, my concentration with talking to people (I did not take charge of it) etc. Dr. Ocana tends not to give himself the credit he deserves.

Prior to entering Dr. Ocana's care I had bounced from family doctor, to psyciatrist, to therapist, to psycologist.... all telling various versions of the same thing... "It is your own fault you made bad decisions and you just need to suck it up and make better choices". Dr Ocana spent the time to actually listen to me and instead of just telling me I needed better willpower he actually treated me. Compulsive gambling had destroyed my life... turns out it was a symptom of undiagnosed ADHD, Impulse Control Disorder and Bi-polar Spectrum. Dr. Ocana has changed my life. First by listening then by actually treating me. I would recomend Dr. Ocana to anyone suffering from addiction or mental illness. I drive 4 hours at least once a month to see him and have no regrets. His bedside manner is "unique". Do not let this deter you. He is a passionate man who cares deeply about the well being of his patients. Given the time to properly diagnose a patient, he will help.

Some may think he's arrogant but to me he was just self assured and confident in himself and his experience. He didn't force a conclusion or remedy on me but instead listened to me and what I was experiencing before recommending courses of treatment. At no time did I feel that treatment was forced on me and even after my medication trials were complete and a dose was determined he still followed up with me to ensure the course of treatment chosen was chosen by me for the right reasons. 3 years later I'm barely the same person I was before seeing him! I'm organized, responsible, successful and most importantly ... IN CONTROL! Thanks Dr. Ocana!

Self assuredness yes arrogance No Who w]else in the medical community would read poetry to the client and have them recognize themselves in the poem thus changing their life Thank you Dr O Ginny
