Ratings for Dr. John Ambler
Saw this doctor today after my previous specialist retired. It appears that he has little interest in me as a patient and prefers to let his minions do all the hands on work. I found him to be rushed and rough in the way that he treated me. The previous doctor was warm, and gentle. In contrast Dr Ambler without warning forced my eyes open then inserted what I can only guess was a tool in order to keep them open whilst he took a lightening fast look at my optic disks. His treatment was cruel. On top of that my pupils were so dilated it was impossible for me to drive. I’ve always driven home after my previous consults. I left the appointment feeling like I’d been assaulted and sat in my car in an almost panicked state. As much as I have grown fond of the exceptional staff over the last ten years at this clinic, hell will freeze over before I ever see him again.

RUDE ROUGH AND RUSHED !!
I would NOT recommend this Dr for the care of ANYTHING let alone your eyes . He told me at first my eyes were fine !! Oh then he actually looked at the scan I just had done by his 2 “helpers” and said quote unquote “hang on hold the phone “ and proceeded to tell me I had a very serious eye problem . NO CARE NO TACT NO CONCERN SHOWN !!! He did t not want to spend any time explaining it to me at all . I still cannot believe I walked out of there and paid a fortune for that experience ! Come back in 3 months he says NOT LIKELY ! Is he a good opthamologist ? WHO CARES
? If he operates like he treats people I wouldn’t want to find out .

First and only experience he was rude. Dismissive and he heavy handed. I gained no further insight into anything and paid $450 to attend. No results of any tests and I left leaving sad I cried in the car feeling emotional upset to what just happened. I have since cancelled all appointments. The staff member who contacted me about app showed clear knowledge when I reiterated my experience to them as to why I will not be returning.
Lesson learned specialists need to be accountable too.

Dr ambler is so good at what he does. Saved a bit of sight for me which I am forever grateful for and I have the utmost respect for his knowledge and surgical talent. I cracked his rough - done might say arrogant - exterior to find he can actually be quite funny!!
Other reviews on wait times snd helpers don’t understand the process of an eye appointment - you’re there for at heart an hour while the prep is done by others before you see the dr. Your appointment time is not your see the dr time - but I guess you don’t know what you don’t know. In my experience of being a patient for over 2 decades he is amazing.
Having said that, after being a patient that long I was very disappointed at the location move without advising patients or recommending another dr for those who can’t get to the new location. I have many medical conditions, it takes me a while to trust and develop a connection with doctors - once I reach this point I stick to them like glue. The lack of communication left me feeling kicked to the kerb, and I am nervous on where to go from here. After so long I am sad at the ending.

The man I thought was Dr. Ambler was actually his helper. Then I saw another person and was put through the wringer by both these people before actualy seeing the Dr. I also agree he was rude and offhand. Gave no feedback regarding the problem and seemed to be getting people in and out as quickly as possible. There must have been at least a dozen went through the practice in an hour. Then when given the bill I nearly passed out. I am a pensioner and had no idea it would cost well over $300 for a consultation and these tests. Never had them before. Still none the wiser about my eye problem. Will be going elsewhere thank you. I know another person who went there on the same day and had even more uncomplimentary remarks than myself.

I was told by this Dr I had Macular degeneration WRONG I have been taking Macutec for several years now on his recommendation only to find out from TWO other very prominent Opthalmic specialist that I DO NOT HAVE macular degeneration and therefore did not need to be spending a fortune on this medication ......I believe if He tells you that you have Macular degeneration that you should please get a second opinion and I agree with others here he is very rude and rough

Dr Amber is rough and rude, no people skills. Waited over an hour from my appontment time before being seen. Staff could at least inform clients if there is a delay. Nothing was to me.

Dr Ambler is an amazing ompthamologist. I have been a patient of Dr Amblers for over 20 years. I highly recommend Dr Ambler.

Dr Ambler saved my sight. After two eminent eye surgeons told me I didn't have a problem, I insisted on a further referral. I was lucky to get Dr Ambler. I saw him 1030 one morning and he told me to be in operating theatre that night. He was succinct, clear, concise. I listen pro actively. Yes, eye examinations can hurt - they are invasive. Some things have to be done suddenly to avoid patient movement or jerking away. Eye dilation SHOULD take time to wear off. At least a couple of negative reviews here - maybe 3 - are by the same writer. If you are a panicky, hysterical, snowflake or neurotic type, take a calm companion to observe and take notes. Or take notes yourself to get your thoughts clear. Dr Ambler was great
