Dr. Steve Y. Kim was our surgeon. We were not informed of the risks or given full information regarding the surgery. We were not given full instructions about post surgery care, or what to do to prevent complications. Instructions were short and misleading. After a few hours from surgery we must come back to an emergency because the area was so swollen and he was in such pain. My son spent another night and day in a hospital on the IV with pain control. On a third day from surgery all stiches came appart and we had to come back to an emergency again and they told us becouse of huge hematoma, it's better to be left open. Plus another hole opened which didn't have stitches at all.
This could have been avoided if the doctor had told us to avoid sitting (my son is wheelchair bound) and use ice packs every hour, etc. Plus, it could've been better surgery to avoid such enormous hematoma. All calls to surgeons office were left unreturned. We didn't hear from him ever since.
spends most of his time sitting) and that we had to ice the area for
the first couple days.

In conclusion, my son has spent the last two days in intense pain, has
lost an important organ, and now faces several weeks of post-operative
recovery due to the neglect of the Southlake Emergency Staff.

Thanks to Dr Kim I am pain and symptom-free after a dreadful experience with a kidney stone. His skill and expertise is matched by his thoughtful caring and compassion.

Dr Kim is overall Outstanding: His surgical skill is the best you can find. He has a great bed side manor both at the Hospital and in his Office. He is a very busy doctor but always takes the time and patience to answer all my questions. He always gives me the alternatives and always takes the time to explain the options. I was very lucky to find Doctor Kim. I trust his judgement and his ability.

Dr. Kim saved my life 5 years ago. He is the best urologist in this country, in my opinion. I will not speak about all of my medical issues but I had a lot and thanks to his skill I was still able to live a normal life and father two children, despite the surgical risks. That is from surgical skill and superior knowledge. The negative comments on here are about administrative problems and I understand those issues and frustrations but they have NOTHING to do with the surgical skill and knowledge of this man. The bottom line is this: If you want the best and most skilled urologist then you should choose Dr. Kim. He is the best urologist out there and I owe my life to his skill and his care.

If it isn't broke, don't try to fix it. He is very logical and reasonable and takes time to discuss any alternatives. I have absolute confidence in his abilities.

He's knowledge is limited and he does not look at all the pictures of the patient case.
May be he is busy but he did not even give me as a patient a chance to discuss other alternative for treatment. He was rushing me to have biopsy for my prostate.

I attended the emergency department of Southlake Hospital with a significant right kidney stone that required surgical intervention and a hydronephrosis of my left kidney. The emergency physician was kind and attentive and advised me that Dr. Kim had been contacted by phone for advice but that he would not be coming in to see me. His office however would be in touch with me over the next few days for an urgent follow up appointment. A week passed. I called the Urology Clinic in Newmarket and was told that Dr. Kim had moved to Alliston and was provided his telephone number. I called the number, reiterated my story to his secretary and was provided an urgent appointment for the following day. I drove to Alliston (an hour away), in significant discomfort, saw Dr. Kim, who was extremely knowledgeable and informative, and was subsequently scheduled for urgent surgery the following day with a colleague, who was to be on call. (Dr. Kim would like to have helped me but he was no longer on call and no longer had privileges to schedule the urgent surgery under himself). I must say that Dr. Kim was professional, kind, knowledgeable and attentive however, I question why a surgeon, who is on call at Southlake Hospital, and paid to be on call, does not attend a patient requiring urgent surgery. I question why the patient must be proactive in calling his office, now in Alliston, leaving messages, and finally receiving an appointment. I question what an elderly patient, who does not drive, would do as a means of arriving in his office in Alliston. And, most importantly, I now understand why Dr. Kim did not attend Southlake Hospital to consult my case, when he was on call, as clearly coming in from Alliston is a wee bit of a drive. Tremendously disappointed in Dr. Kim for not maintaining his obligations to his call duty but also tremendously grateful for the urologist that stepped up to provide me with outstanding care.
