I went to this doctor after sustaining a spinal fracture as a result of a motor vehicle accident. One of the first things this neurosurgeon said to me was that when the insurance company makes me a settlement offer, I should accept it right away as the insurance company would never make me a second offer. I found this statement odd as I knew that insurance companies always low-ball injured parties who don't have legal representation. After the initial visit and follow up, this doctor refused to see me even though other physicians told me to go back to him due to my worsening condition. Dr. Duplessi finally agreed to see me five years later when the insurance company's doctor called him up to ask him to see me. As soon as I came to his office, Dr. Duplessi was belligerent--making me feel as if I was being accused of malingering. Indeed, when I pulled up my medical chart, he wrote things in it which one would infer from reading it that I was malingering. After doing some research, I found out the Dr. Duplessi works for insurance companies as an independent medical examiner. Had I known this, I would never have gone to see him. I expect insurance companies and lawyers to engage in games, but for a doctor to do so--I find it appalling. What happened to the hyppocratic oath?

I was referred by another spinal surgeon to do repairs in my neck. I didn't get a response so I called personally. The person who called back let it be known they weren't happy with my call. Two weeks later I called the referring doctor office again. They called back and said I would hear from Duplessi . Early the next morning I did get a call and get an appointment May 29 and was told my case was critical. I asked about a cancellation appointment. I was told they were rare but to call the next Monday. Monday I called and the person was quite upset telling me I shouldn't call as I was merely wasting their time. My reply was I had been told to. We never received a conformation call but I was there Tuesday May 29 on time. I filled a display of where my pain was . I was taken to an office and given an exam to check out my trouble. After the exam the doctor explained to me he wasn't sure that an operation on my neck would help.. He left the room and another doctor came in, not sure who or why. The examining doctor came back in showed us the MRI and again said there was no guarantee surgery would help due to muscle loss and nerve damage. Originally I couldn't have back surgery until my neck was done but now I was told it was ok. Nothing offered about what to do with my neck pain. I was then told to return in six months. My problems were so insignificant to Dr Duplessi he never even met or talked to me. The only way I will be there in six months is if forced. Compassion not high for this man.

My husband was in severe pain from his neck which was broken in 2 places a couple tears ago. We waited 7 months for the Spinal Triage Center & when there had basic tests done by a nice young Chinese Dr. I had researched the neurosurgeons in Calgary & knew he needed Dr Duplessi, but she said he wasn't taking new patients. Because my husband had unusual pain in his hands but not arms she tracked him down & he was wonderful! He explained the options & sent my husband for a nerve block which worked amazing, so Dr then knew he could do surgery. Dr Duplessi is an artist- rebuilt 3 levels- C5-6, C6-7 & C7- T1, and put a cage around them. The pain spikes are gone from his hands- amazing difference!- and the burning pain is only a 3-4 now. We still have 3 months for complete healing, but I have my old husband back! And the staff got him in for surgery only 4 months after the nerve block. And they have followed up with us, & call us back when we call

Saw Dr Du Plessis at Caleo as arranged by the insurance company. Should have realized that HE WORKS FOR THEM!! Normal wait for a neurosurgeon in Calgary is 12-18months unless you're dying... but Dr du Plessis could see me the following week. Tons of paperwork to fill out, none of which he read. Couldn't find a cause for my pain so basically said in the letter back to my GP and the insurance company that basically I was faking. Really? Who are you? God? No desire to look further for answers and told me that I should be thankful that things like cancer and MS had been ruled out.

I saw this Dr today after waiting months on a different Drs referral list. He was very kind, spent lots of time explaining my options and was direct and honest about possible complications. I feel like this surgery (fusion and laminectomy) could be life changing for me! I'm excited to move forward with surgery., especially with kind & patient surgeon who spent the time needed to help me fully understand the procedure and recovery.

This is the second time I have had to watch my husband go through extreme pain, with difficulty walking. It doesn't seem to matter the severity of the person, it takes months to get in, even if you have seen him in the past.

I had 3 back surgeries w/ Dr DuPlessis & I am grateful that I had the good fortune of being referred to him. He has an air of self confidence which gave me great reassurance. Spinal Surgery is in no way a "routine" procedure but Dr DuPlessis made me feel less afraid.

Absolutely the best. Kind, caring, understanding, compassionate and knowledgeable. I got to a point where I could not sit, walk, sleep. No matter what I did, I was in extreme pain and discomfort. my quality of life was poor. He is the reason I am walking and living today - pain free.
