Was told that I should "use my head and figure it out myself" when asking to basically diagnose a mental illness and get me on a treatment plan. This was after taking steps to try to improve everything. I now go to a walk in for my problems.

Guess I should have checked the reviews before I made the appointment. Had an initial consult with Dr. Leong today. I found him patronizing, abrasive, and judgmental. I have several chronic conditions, but also manage to be a productive and contributing member of the community. As we went through my list of medications, he repeatedly expressed shock at how many meds I take, but spent little to no time exploring the context of my life and illness. Having moved from the Mainland 3 months ago, and struggling to find a doctor since arriving on the island, I needed several prescription refills and requisitions for blood work. He begrudgingly gave me the 2 most important prescriptions, but not the bloodwork. I will have to take time off and go back to my doctor on the Mainland for the rest. I also drove from Sidney for the appointment. I guess there is a good reason he is the only doctor on the South Island taking new patients. Poor understanding of patient centered care, appointment was timed to the minute.

I always feel rushed and have to get to the point for the reason I am there to see him. He does not have P.R. skills but I think he is knowledgable. He is making sure I get routine testing on more than I have had in the past, for which I am grateful as one showed it was needed. I would like to see him be a little more personable though.

Had no idea who I was or my medical background/history from one visit to the next (although I had seen him several times). Failed to notify me of a significant medical condition following scans, which I learned of, incidentally, a full year after diagnosis. Often distracted , disinterested and unprepared for office visits.

I met with this doctor some time ago.. I found him to be very rude and something mentally wrong with him... I would not recommend this doctor.

I saw Dr. Leong for 5 ish years. During that time he regularly ignored severe problems and blamed them on whatever was wrong with my mental state at the time. I rarely felt heard or supported. I’d have panic attacks on days I had to go see him because I knew I’d leave there feeling worse than ever. As a female client I felt that he completely ignored the parts of my health that were “lady based”. I’d have to beg and fight just to get regular tests done. Then if the first test was inconclusive, he would insinuate that I was imagining it or just making it up. He told me for 3 years that I would never be approved for government disability. When I finally applied, the nurse helping me was shocked I hadn’t applied years before. I was approved right away. Leong caused more problems than he ever helped me with. I was elated to find out he was moving and not shocked that he did it all so suddenly and without regard for his patients. His staff were always caring and considerate and helpful. I have zero dr now with a lot of chronic illnesses and I still feel I’m better off than with him.

We love Dr. Leong. He has been always patient and caring with my mother and myself. It is so sad he closed his practice in Victoria but we decided to follow him to Mill Bay because he is so worthy!!

I'm wondering if this poor guy has a mood disorder. He was so different from appointment to appointment. Sometimes he was rude and condescending and other times he was patient and kind. He also seems to have trouble retaining information. Maybe he needs medication.

Dr Gary Leong closed his practice in Victoria and took on a full existing practice in Mill Bay in June or July 2018. His new practice contact is 1-250-743-3221. He only told some of his patients and apparently he is still keeping some of his old patients. He closed his practice and communicated it with absolutely no respect for the people he was looking after originally. Over a year ago he told me verbatim..."I was considering 'punting' you as I haven't seen you for almost a year. What the .... does that mean?!" He never mentioned closing his practice. I am virtually no trouble at all but he is going to 'punt' me? He said something similar for the rest of my family members. So obviously Gary Leong was picking the type of patients for home he can get the greatest gain for the least effort or choosing based on personal preference. I am certain I was no effort at all as a patient. I will be looking into whether or not he has adhered to his code of conduct and ethics as a physician. Good luck Gary!
