Brilliant research doctor who saved my life many years ago. I still use the medication and treatments that he made available to me. Dr. Cheney is my hero. He saved my life when no one
else knew what to do or would help. All CFS doctors can only follow his protocols and treatment
suggestions because he was the first CFS doctor and his research and brilliant mind saved my life
and so many others. I still follow the treatment protocol and use the same medications that he
prescribed for me so many years ago. CFS did not go away but Dr. Cheney saved my life and taught me how to live with it. I spent thousands of dollars for several years to have him as my doctor and I would again if I could afford to. Dr. Cheney is a genius who thinks outside the box.
I hope he never stops researching because no one will ever fill his shoes. Dr Cheney, you are my
hero. For those patients that can afford the costs now, all I can say is that if you do not learn from this man's research, you are not reading or listening. That goes for the other doctors who treat CFS patient's as well...you may be treating patient's but Dr. Cheney taught you how to treat them.

He saved my life. I was in bed for 5 years and then finally went to see him. I was on my 4th episode and , yes, I had suffered major depression each time, but as an effect, not a cause. CFS patients are uncanilly aware of their own bodies - in fact, if the doctor would just listen to the patient and not be so smug and order the standard tests (and yes, that includes the big powerful doctor from DUKE who acted like an idiot, violating patient/doctor priviledge - I hope you know who you are because you ruined my life for years after I saw you for that lovely 15 minutes. Yes, you - the Infectious Disease Doctor held high in esteem Duke doctor - remember me the haggard lady you treated like nothing but a basket case.)

Dr. Cheney's level of knowledge on biochem and immunology is mind boggling. His use of a 3D echocardiogram helps the patient actually SEE what is happening to his body when exposed to various chemicals, etc. His total and consuming devotion to the illness is undeniable. Anyone who refers to him as a quack should be tied down and injected with a virus thought to be the cause and/or otherwise forced into a chronic fatigue and state of pain. It destroyed my marriage and my family because the press insists on making it psychosomatic. I would just love to talk to some one who is so sure he is a quack. The knowledge of his patients is overwhelming due to his natural teaching ability. Anyone who wants to call him a quack better come to the debate in a suit o f Kevlar because they WILL go down. That includes, Dr. Richard Strauss and Dr;, William Holmes (NIH and CDC - although both now deceased). these two men, particularly Straus, in combination with our own government deliberately held back research on CDC by misallocating and "misplacomg" the meage funds allocate. Dr, Strauss is known as the man who left 3 generations to suffer a long and painful death. What we know about the CDC from Ebola only scratches the surface of incompetence, motivation by politics and lack of interest for human life. And quess what - they can call the whistle on themselves and still keep a job with the CDC. Can you believe that????? So, tread lightly before you call Dr, Cheney a quack. You won't have to worry about him, an
unassuming, kind, tolerant man who goes by Paul - minus the big doctor ego. But you may have to worry about his patients!

I agree with the rating from Mar 30, 2009. I saw Dr. Cheney in Feb, 2009 and had high hopes from all I had read and heard about him over the years with his work with CFS patients. After arriving I was surprised to find out that he wanted to rub the experimental creams containing CSF's on my forearm while doing an echo and said this was a critical part of the testing and without it, my visit to his clinic would be a waste. Against my better judgement, I agreed to have this done and at the exact moment one of the creams was rubbed on my arm, I felt a strange tingling sensation running up and down the back of my neck and it also made a slight noise that I don't know if was audible to anyone else or just to me. I reported this and he didn't respond. I asked what was causing it and still no answer. I continued to have this symptom after returning home and called his office several times and still no real explanation. It has now been more than five years and I still have this weird sensation from time to time, mostly when I'm lying down on my back which is the same position I was in for the testing, and I still don't know the cause. I have reported this to my doctors and no one can explain it and you can imagine what was said about the testing I did...I never returned to the Cheney Clinic but I not only lost a lot of money by going there ($6,000 +) I had an MRI to try and see what was going on right after I got back from the clinic and the MRI caused hearing damage and I live with constant tinnitus as a result. So if you're considering a visit to this clinic, consider the fact that you may have more to lose than just your money. There needs to be more regulations in place to protect the patients being seen at this clinic from the "testing" being done in the name of "research". No other scientific institution that I'm aware of is allowed to conduct research without the proper protocols in place to protect the patients. Moreover, most research protocols don't ask the patients to pay to participate in the research.

He is brilliant but humble. He is in the profession for the RIGHT reasons-to help countless people he has seen over his career that have endured incomprehensible suffering. He has had to deal with unjustified setbacks from outside sources yet continues to do what he believes is right. It is easy to find multiple references to his being the most knowledgeable doctor with respect to CFS.It is fascinating to watch him think as he hears the results of an echocardiagram. You can see him going through the"what if,if..then,therefore... etc" analysis He is not afraid to admit when his theses are wrong. He learns from them and continues to seek the RIGHT solution. I expect his PhD in theoretical physics allows him to"THINK OUTSIDE THE BOX". Much like theoretical math, as personal experience speaks to. TO: MEDICAL SCHOOLS - teach your students how to THINK, because they are becoming useless in today's world..... resting on rote algorithms!!!! And they do indirect HARM because they can't think!

No insurance taken or filed--Payment due at each appt. Many mandatory tests were quite expensive and needed prior to treatment protocol (spent over $12,000) Other than basic cfs/fm protocols, his treatment relies on rubbing buffalo organ creams into the skin--he sells them for $360-$720 per 6 week supply. Poor Bedside manner, he charges by the hour ($600) and while trying to ask approx 4 questions as fast as I could, He talked for two hours and would not let me get in one word-then demanded I pay $1200 before I could leave??? I feel that he does have experience in the field and has a basic support program to help cfs/fm sufferers, however, he is using his current patients to experiment with the buffalo cream stuff in hopes of a cure that certainly did not work for me. A good GP with interest in cfs could do as well and won't have an ego to take $12,000 from you and you later find out that when you file your own insurance, they deny 95% of treatments and tests done.

Dr. Cheney is a superb doctor with much more knowledge than most doctors. His knowledge of the immune system is top notch. He specializes in CFIDS (Chronic Fatigue Syndrome). I have been a patient of his since 1989. He has helped me so much when other doctors were dismissive of my symptoms. If I could rate him a Ten I would. He is world renown in the field of CFIDS. He is one of the few doctors that if you ask him a question, he actually answers it. He rocks!
