I am a healthcare professional and I have never seen a hospitalist like this. She came to the ED and then I never saw her again after I was admitted. . I essentially had no hospitalist to facilitate my care at the hospital. Luckily I was able to advocate for myself and had nurse managers intervene and patient advocate intervene. Something is not right.

When I se t her a picture of my mother's red leg, Dr. Berk called me a d told me to get my mother to the ER. While my mother was hospitalized, Dr. Berk coordinated all her care and expedited her discharge when the crisis was past. She checked up on my mother every day. We first met her when she came to our home as a visiting MD--a wonderful service.

I went to see Dr Berk regarding some facial sores that appeared to be bug bites that wouldn't go away. In seconds she had diagnosed them as Shingles. he enquired if I"d ever had Chicken Pox, which I didn't believe I had. She ran bloodwork to confirm that I had previously had Chicken Pox and prescribed an oral medication which cleared up the shingles in about a week or so. She is an excellent diagnostician.

Dr. Berk is an excellent doctor ad she is an excellent diagnostician. I first met her in the emergency room of North Shore Hospital and I think it was divine intervention because I was there with a spinal cord compression, straight from an MRI (in March of 2011) but NO ONE could figure out why. She has a complete understanding of all medicine, she put a crazy puzzle together, and was able to diagnose me. I am not a paraplegic today because of her and, even better, I am alive, going on 6 plus years, under her care. I see her every month, when possible, she follows up with my care, my blood-work (because of the medicines I need to be on for the rest of my life) and she has even given me her personal cell for emergencies. I do NOT know of any other doctor, in this day and age, who cares about her patients the way Dr. Berk does. She is also INCREDIBLE if you are ever hospitalized. She sees you EVERY day and makes sure all your tests are done and that your nurses give you the correct care. She advocates FOR YOU. I trust her so much that two of my adult children also see her, as does my husband. Her knowledge base is phenomenal and she gets things done! When someone saves your life, it's hard to find the correct words for these reviews. People complaining about "wait times" or whatever, get over it, I've NEVER had a problem, get over yourselves, SHE SAVES LIVES, PEOPLE!!!

If you enjoy your loved one's company, keep this nasty woman away from them. Not sure why North Shore keeps her. I hope when she is in her elderly years, she is treated by a doctor just as
uncaring and ineffective as she is. There is no way this woman should have the right to practice medicine...awful. If you are unfortunate enough to have her assigned to your loved one upon hospital entry ask for a switch asap.

dr berk has been my primary care physician for several years. she is entitled, self righteous, defensive, and most importantly, she doesn't provide very good medical care. I had a suspicious looking bump directly after my boyfriend was diagnosed with MRSA- a dangerous staph infection. i went to see her and explained that i thought i most likely had it too, but she told me i was being too "philosophical," and that it didn't matter what it was as long as the antibiotic she prescribed cured it. however, MRSA is highly resistant to most antibiotics, including the one she gave me. when i asked her to perhaps take blood or do a rapid culture test she told me "i'm not a hospital." her staff is equally as unpleasant. they seem bothered by the mere presence of patients in the office and if you need to contact them via phone, prepare for the surly, condescending, infantilizing, and snide tone you will undoubtedly receive. after my last visit to this office i swore i would NEVER go back.

I heard several complaints about this doctor and was told to change to another. At first I did not experience any problems with her. When I did ask questions about my health and the treatments that she was giving me, she was very abrupt and rude. She actually got angry that I was questioning her. I am an adult and I do respect the medical profession. I also believe that your doctor should be respectful and answer your concerns. Well, I did change to another physician and I am glad that I did.

I am a health care professional (RN) & tend to rate medical providers on professionalism, knowledge & overall clinical skills. I have been treated by Dr. Yanna Berk for 2+ years now & find her an exceptional provider, in my "professional" opinion. The poor rating given Dr. Berk by the others seems to be based on her lack of punctuality (drs are very busy people, like all the rest of us!) and her alleged poor beside manner. When I go for medical care, I don't want someone to hold my hand, pat my head & say "Poor boo-boo". If I wanted that, I'd call my mother! What I expect from my dr & any medical provider is a no-nonsense, clinically skilled professional. Dr. Berk fits this bill for me & I have not hesitated to recommend her to friends & family - without reservation.
